I suggest that you go back and read what happened...

BBC News

At the end of 1981, he visited the British ambassador in Buenos Aires, spoke to the Falkland Island authorities, signed a deal worth $270,000 (£180,000) with the Scottish owners of the derelict whaling station and then went back to the British ambassador to ask if there was anything else he might need to do.

His claims are confirmed by the 1983 Franks Committee report carried out by the British authorities into the events leading up to the conflict.

But some in London thought the scrap metal workers were the advance party of an invasion of South Georgia island, by the then ruthless Argentine military government.

It was reported that they had planted the Argentine flag and were singing their national anthem.

British Royal Marines were despatched from the Falkland Islands to find out.

The 39 scrap metal workers were detained. Argentina sent its troops to rescue them and, while they were about it, invaded the Falkland Islands.

The Argentinians had never looked for a conflict and had been seeking a resolution to the Falklands/Malvinas issue...many innocent people died as a result of this war; let's not cheapen their deaths with spurious jibes.

For once (in recent years) the innocent people were British. Germany was a long time ago and time is a healer, I can't believe how many people forget what Argentina dared to attempt. If Argentina had any value as a country (for value read oil) we could have pursuaded the US to punish them.

Hmmm...not sure you understand the concept of innocence.

Heat added, nice flip flops at good price.

totally agree with rattler.... and to boot i think these are part of the hut!! absolutle robbers!!! useless i have no idea how they are still in business!!! Cooooooooold!!

I imagine the person who posted this was simply looking for a pair of Havaianas and came across these at a good price. It's a good deal and despite being in the armed forces, I wouldn't have made the link between a pair of flip flops and the Falklands conflict. Heat added!

Hardly Innocent....You neglect to mention that the Argentinian government had been firing up its people for a long time to retake the Islands (To divert the masses from overthrowing them!). It was hardly a knee-jerk reaction to seeing 'Johnny-Foreigner' LOL

That's very true...the Junta did divert the masses and wanted to take back of the Islands...but the original action of the Scrap Metal dealer was sanctioned by the UK Govt. By "innocent", I am referring to non-voluntary combatants on both sides.

Only on this website would a pair of flip flops result in a discussions around the falklands!
