do the speakers look good?

hold out for the HD DVD stock reductions. They will upscale DVDs for you and you should able to pick one up for £40 or less!!

Bad news I'm afraid.

Tried to set them up and it appears that they are not actually compatible with each-other. The 5.1 requires three seperate audio inputs whilst the DVD player only has a single output. Also even though the packaging states 'compatible with games conoles', the 5.1 does not have optical input meaning you cant actually use it with a 360 or PS3 for actual 5.1 sound.

Taking them back tomorrow, great first deal eh!

What Philips and where?

Independent of each other, are they any good? I want a cheap to buy, but good quality (I know I want the world) upscaling DVD player, ideally 1080p

Although the Durabrand system doesn't have an optical in (it's £20-£25!!!) both can be used together with standard white & red phono leads.

I've got an older version of the Durabrand (this new one is redesigned and cheaper, though from having seen it instore it looks to only have inputs for two different sources rather than the three that my older one has). I use my Xbox360, Wii, PC and Humax PVR with it and it sounds fantastic.

I also picked up the HDMI upscaling DVD player for bedroom use and the picture is fantastic via HDMI/DVI. As soon as I get a moment I'll link it upto the second Durabrand speaker system I bought last year (I was that impressed I bought another for bedroom use!).

£40 for the two is in my opinion an absolute steal.

I'm more than happy with the DVD player, and the Durabrand Asda are currently selling just looks like a neater version of one they were selling last year (which again I'm more than happy with).

I forgot to say as well - though it doesn't mention it on the box, the DVD player plays divx/avi files. I tried out of curiosity, and having tried six avi/divx movies it's played six faultlessly. No idea if it's multi-region but it wouldn't surprise me.
