These are "OK" if you don't mind the basic menus. Worth £99 IMHO

Can you use your Sky HD dish with these?

Basic menus?!?! Are you confusing these with the older Humax models prior to Freesat + ? The only difference between these and the newer Humax 1100 is in footprint size and inbuilt wi-fi.

Stellar deal for this.

Yes. Providing you have at least a twin LNB from your dish, I use a MK4 Sky Dish with an Octo LNB just fine.

yes you can - I do with mine. you can also cast the output of the YouTube app to it as well and it works in exactly the same way as the chromecast for that - it's the reason I got rid of mine!

Example of a Quad LNB, notice its four F Plug outputs.

Does Freesat get more channels than the Humax Terrestrial boxes offer?

I have this exact model I'm sure about the menus. It's fine just basic and clunky. works well enough though.

not really, no. you do miss out on a few but I don't think it's that many.

these boxes are also apparently getting an update at some point that will add netflix

Well I certainly have not tried Virgin's latest box or BT etc, but compared to other Freesat boxes and the Virgin V+ box we ditched I find it far from basic or clunky with well defined menus, a fantastic EPG and decent phone and tablet integration.

And depending on your point of view they may be significant. I threatened to put one of these in my daughter's room, so replace Sky - she was unhappy about the thought of losing Dave...

It is a shame that Dave uses videoguard encryption. I really do not understand why considering its free on terrestrial why they encrypt it via satellite..otherwise you could add it as a non-freesat channel.

fair point - I know you can access some channels in STB mode (I think that's what it's called) but I've never tried it properly so wouldn't know if you could get dave (which you probably can't)

these are also easily upgradable to 2TB's as well

series link is great on these (as in, record the next available programme if your'e trying to record 3 at once)

do you think it's worth holding out for black Friday or just grabbing this?

Cant see you getting one cheaper than £99 with warranty anywhere.

There is £7 delivery on this...OP should have put that in the description...however use code HUMAXBD1 knocks 10% off taking it down to £89.10 plus £7 delivery = £96.10. Just buy it, I cannot see Humax Direct having a Black Friday sale on their refurbs or for that matter any cheaper becoming available.

To put it into context, 3 years ago we got the 1TB of this receiver for £160 from Bargain Crazy, was mint condition with protective sellophane still over the unit. The box had no inner packaging pieces although the unit was sensibly bubble wrapped inside of the box.

Now that was when the 1TB units retail price was £250, it was a stellar deal 3 years ago and only around the last 6 months have we been seeing graded 1TB units now at Humax Direct being £139 (£132.10 delivered with 10% code)

So £96.10 for a 500gb unit is a real good deal unless you could do with more storage capacity for recording. If so it would be worth considering the 1TB unit and particularly the white 1010S as it has inbuilt wifi if needed, the 1TB 1000S does not.

Supposedly Sky have the exclusive satellite rights to all the UKTV channels - so Gold, Really, Dave ... Guess that's one way of protecting that level of investment.

I have just read the following, guess it makes sense, although annoying.....

The main reason for this is that the satellite signals are available over most of Europe, and without encryption, would be freely available to other countries, where the broadcasters in these countries may have also paid for the broadcast rights to those programmes, reducing their “Exclusivity” deals in those countries.

I've got one of the older models and love it!

I don't miss paying for TV (apart from the TV licence fee) with Humax and the free streaming services like iPlayer/4OD etc.

a quick question before I take the plunge on one of these and be free of sky forever. I have the RF2 out on my sky box feeding another room, do they have the same facility on this so I can push the signal to another room or would you need two boxes.

thanks

Damn I just bought 2 x 320gb for the kids !

No. I just put a large plastic funnel in the back of mine, and all the satellite signals just fall into it from space.

Is this the sort of box where you can acquire 'gifts'?

There is enough c**p on 50 channels - with another 150 channels to sift through ? Still, Hot for those who want

This is the box that you require

if anyone feels put off by it being a refurb, i picked up a 1010 2 years ago that been fine
Even had a support case for the EPG not refreshing and it rebooting which was a remote issue not local and they fixed OTA, currently running their custom firmware for testing

I think you are missing the point...for some of us Freesat is either a necessity or the most convenient source to be able to even get terrestrial transmissions.

Thanks r1zla, ordered, thanks for the discount code also cicobuff
