WIll be buying it ASAP! Sony plan on it bringing in HD don't they? Is the upscaled SD noticeable??

Been umming and arring over whether to get this, i know its a great bit of kit but then you practically need a new 320gb or so hard drive for storing things and then it comes to near £100. Came back in stock at play other day but decided to give it a miss at £50 but for £40 if i see one il get one. Heat added.

Oh, as above me, is the upscaled sd noticeable?

nah you don't need that size hard drive. i have a 80 gig ps3 which is fine for general recording, got two hours worth of tv recorded n isn't taking up that much space
as for the upscaling, i'm not sure if it actually does as yet. my sd picture is pretty darn good anyway but i don't know if that's just because of having a decent tv

Thanks for the info, atm im using a normal freeview box connected via scart to my hdtv and the pictures pretty bad tbh, so hopefully this will be top notch, if not, il hold you personally responsible

If you google there should have been an update recently to upscale SD and I also read a while back that it should take HD feeds in future if need be. Maybe you need to update firmware?

PS sorry everyone if it 's only my local branch that has it on but as I could only see 3 I'm not seeing where incase 1 isn't left for me when I buy in a few days hopefully!

that might be down to either you're tv or freeview. my tv is a toshiba 1080p n the picture quality is amazing through sd sky n play tv's freeview, so fingers crossed for yours!
you'll only need a huge hard drive on your ps3 if your planning on recording loads of films n keeping them, i just usually delete things after i've watched them so 80 gig is fine for me

Iv got a 1080p samsung so fingers crossed. Will be the reason why freeview through scart looks so bad probably.

The picture quality via Play TV is significantly better than Sky or Freeview, in my household at least. I was well impressed when I first got it.

Managed to get mine for just over £30 from Woolies when they were shutting down, and it's one of the best buys I've made.

I'm still only using my 40gb hard drive, and have been fine with space so far. I will need to upgrade though at some point, but don't think it's something you'll have to do right away.

Plus the price of a remote which is a must IMO.

As a rough guide it's about 1gig to 1 hour of recording time. Obviously this will increase if it does get HD content.

Remote handy yes but not required

still only records one channel at a time though right?

You can record one thing and watch another. But yes only one thing can be recorded at a time.

And that's the ball-game....

They'll hopefully bring in a dual-tuner with HD next time round, and I can ditch sky.

cold got this from Woolies for £13

Given that Woolies is closed I find voting this cold on that basis a bizarre decision. Surely it should be voted hot or cold dependant on current pricing (i.e. in the last month) ?

any in belfast? anyone knows? thanks!

any of these in manchester region?
cheers in advance

Well not really because that is the price I paid

can we have a link that works?

Ben3110;5217653

On that principle, if you won it in a competition, then £5 for it wouldn't be a good deal?

Jesus, some people are never happy are they!

Hoted hot to cancel out this lunacy.

Ben3110;5217532

Yeah cos we can all go into Woolworths today and buy one for that much right now can't we.

It's based on CURRENT prices, not prices from long ago from non existent companies!

Moron.

Ben3110;5217653

And if you can find it at the price again then your needless cold voting becomes justified.

If not it just makes you look like an idiot, and further arguing the fact just clarifies this even more.

They don't have a website and if did it would be dearer! It's not even on the Zavvi website anymore so I presume it's old stock lying around

How about selling it for £20 then to one of us!?

Out of interest - I tried this at launch (a friend's unit) and it seemed to stutter every now and then during playback of live or recorded TV. Does this still happen, or has it been fixed in one of the firmware updates?

cheers

What are the extra benefits (if any) to having this if you have Sky+ HD anyway? I'm quite interested in it ::?

Just bought from Head.

Was marked up at £70.00 but asked for a price check, and sure enough it was £39.99.

Thanks OP.

the only benefit for getting play tv if you have sky plus is the feature that lets you record a programme or film them transfer it onto your psp if you have one

I have Sky Plus at home but own neither a PSP nor a DVD Recorder . Can I use PlayTV to copy programmes over from the hard-drive on my Sky Plus box to my PS3 and subsequently burn them onto a blank DVD? Many thanks in advance.
