Hard to say if the Moto X cost is overpriced to begin with. Quite possibly, but for those that are looking to buy it upon release, Phones 4u are offering a free bluetooth wireless speaker with online orders (apparently worth £120 but no brand/model stated).

Pay monthly starts at £25 on Vodaphone, but for more reasonable allowances, Orange do a £27.99 p/m 24 month contract with 1000 mins, unlimited texts and 500 MB of data. EE do a 4G tariff for £29.99; 1000 mins, unlimited txts and 500 MB data. The handset is free with all the contracts.

Phones 4u also have 3 months exclusive selling rights to the white model.

Wireless Speaker Info:
"Precision-tuned drivers and passive bass radiator work in concert to produce amazingly clear, full audio at any volume
Built-in speakerphone makes it easy to take and make calls hands free or in a group
Rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides up to 8 hours of non-stop music."

Make & Model is: Divoom Onbeat-200 Portable Bluetooth Wireless Speaker
Price $79.99 or £48.67

Also on ebay its only £34.99

I think the Moto X in the UK is generally a cold deal. £25, too much.

why would anyone get a 4g contract that offers only a half gig of data... like taking a sports car to put the rubbish out...

In a way it competes with the S4 Mini, the One Mini and the iPhone. I've seen far colder £25 deals.
