If I got one of these for my 7 year old - where should I collect him from afterwards?

This is one your 7 year old would be able to control easily not for me

it depends on the wind and the kite. my 3m kite (a training kite for kite surfing) depending on the wind, can easily lift me off the ground occassionally, and more often than not drag me along the ground.

but i have used bigger kites that have less power - it all depends on the type of kite and the wind speed essentially

That's all very interesting but the users 'weight' must surely be one of the biggest factor in whether a kite could lift you off the ground or not?

ascen, nice pic by the way.

I'm curious, what's the thrill with these then? Is it that they can 'make you fly'? I mean, I see the point with the one used for surfing and/or the buggy thing but aren't you just fighting with this thing most of the time?

Thanks in advance.

the thrill, hard to answer.

the main benefit of getting these is for training for using bigger kites, for say kite surfing

before used a 9-16m kite, you need to learn how to control them and understand the various techniques to find power and then maintain constant power (you cant kite surf if the power is jerking and not constant).

when you get a kite like this (2 lines) you arent learning how to truly control the power which is neccesssary for safety. the extra two lines act as an accelerator and adjust how much a kite tips and catches the wind. so the safety mechanism is in that if you let go, it tips to loose the majority of power.

for fun, i personally find it is limited to 2-3 hours at a time with a couple mates. you take turns because your arms get a massive workout. and its limited to when you can go somewhere with enough wind and few people (its dangerous for people to walk underneath the lines because if a person gets hit by the lines they can cut themselves up)

overall for £40 it isn't a bad deal and the kite will last a long time, for each time you go to the beach

these need to be used to propel yourself along - on buggy/board/****, whatever. It isn't a kite to take to the park and fly about in the sky. but the thrill is the same as any other adrenaline junkie kinda pursuit. speed, moderate danger, minimal lasting injuries. I'm sorely tempted, but i think if i was to take the leap, i'D want to get a four string one.

Thanks for the info ascen. Repped ya mate.

This is a 2 line kite i doubt very much you will get any lift or pull hard to keep up in the air as was my first kite i have since brought a hq beamer III 5m and a hq beamer IV 4m alot more money but well worth it

i bought one of these and what a laugh and i was gettin pulled all over and it lifted me up a cupple of times
