By default the journey will be booked as Heathrow to London Paddington first journey and the return will be London Paddington to Heathrow. It's very annoying and I fell foul of this a few years ago. I did get a refund and re-booked because it had only recently been changed to behave in that manner, but it was hassle and I'm unsure if you would get the same result as I managed.

Next best price is £74.00 and is more flexible

Fairly standard, you can get them for £7.50 each way if you book more than 30 days in advance too usually.
i made the schoolboy error you mentioned last month, I called them up and they actually refunded me, great service
I don’t know why people would not just use oyster or contactless payment cards on the TFL Rail service. They go to exact same place and takes maybe 10-15 longer because it has to serve the local stops inbertween.
Far cheaper

Personally speaking, after a long haul flight arriving at 4.10pm on a Friday getting back into Central London ASAP is worth the extra cost to me. That 15 mins can be the difference between a seat or standing on the tube. I'm coming back with 2 large suitcase each so it's going to be painful enough. It is my best option including a taxi or taking the Piccadilly line to Oxford Circus from Heathrow as I need to connect onto the Central line

It's really annoying isn't it. I wouldn't call it 'a schoolboy error' at all. I can only imagine that more visiting tourists use the system than Brits. It's definitely an error you'll only do once

I’m talking more about the TFL Rail service from Heathrow into London Paddington. Not the London Underground. At that time on this service leaving Heathrow will be quite as majority of commuters will be travailing away from central London. It’s preference I suppose.

I really have looked into it. My task is to get from Paddington to Central Line eastbound.

I may even consider walking from Paddington to Lancaster Gate where I will have more chance of getting a seat rather than taking the Bakerloo line from Paddington to Oxford Circus

The quicker I can get from Heathrow to the Central line the better chance I have of getting a seat.

I believe the combo of Heathrow Express to Paddington and then walking to Lancaster Gate (should certainly be a better chance of getting a seat there rather than Oxford Circus) will be my quickest way of embarking on an east bound Central Line train thus giving me more chance of a seat

If your worried about getting a seat on the central line quicker. You should get the TFL rail service from Heathrow, get off at Ealing Broadway and get on at the start of the central line. That way you would have a large selection of seats and even carriages.

I've booked now, but that is a great idea. I didn't know that was a possibility. I have seemingly booked my 2nd best option

Having different options is always best. Try this one next time 🏽
How are you getting £22...we need to use this service next month, but the price for 2 of us shows £50.

You say that but this post made me check my bookings for return on 12th and 26th March and I’ve got them the wrong way round too. I’ll try calling them again on Monday.

I think it's limited amount of seats that go on sale at a certain time. I booked today for 30th June return 18th Jul. Last week it was £74. I would say all the £22 deals have been sold for your dates.
