The same amount of money might pay for a night out, once you arrive too!
Seems to be a good deal if just take cabin luggage, flights for me Feb half term for a week came out as 1100 inc all taxes, as a comparison San Diego which would be warmer was about 4 grand. I've been to San Fran in June before and it was cold and windy with lots of sea mist. I would love to go again and tempted by this deal. If anyone has any suggestions for car hire and accommodation let me know.

Be sure to check out Airbnb some cheap places (Not in the best of locations however) and you save money if you have a kitchen, eating out in the bay area costs so much! Also might be worth looking at staying in San Jose, only an hour outside of SF if the 101 is clear but my main bit of advice is to avoid motel 6 like the plague.
Thanks, accommodation ranges from about 700 -1300 per week for economy.
Going in June with wife and daughter. Had I have known the half decent hotel prices which average around £200 to £250 per night for one room I would have gone elsewhere. This price also seems to carry down south along the coastal route hotels.
Similar prices for flight/car hire to Miami / Orlando /

Just got back. Rented a Dodge Caravan from Budget. Excellent value £262 for 2 weeks. Plenty of space and sat nav fitted as standard so no need to pay for it. Booked through Holiday Autos. We stayed at Castle Inn. Corner of Van Ness and Broadway. Great location. Not many homeless in the area (they seemed to be closer to tenderloin). Castle Inn included free parking and a grab and go breakfast. Pastries, coffee etc. Paid about £100 a night. Expedia. Recommended. Enjoy

The Cable Car stops 4 blocks from hotel. Uber (shared option) was cheap.

you can get accom way cheaper than that - most double rooms will have 2 queen beds in them
also if you have a car - you have got to go to yosemitie
Result, booked a cheap motel as well, blue Oyster bar it's called, hope it's good

Good find OP, being a Cali Native this is good I got something about the same in July. For all those worried about Hotels best western are generally good priced you dont have to stay in San Fran either La Quinta, motel 6 and many many more cheap spots out there. Plus it's not like the UK, get a room and ask for spare beds once your there.

Great route, but presumably late enough in the year that you can go via Tioga pass once reopened in May/June?

i selected Heathrow to San Fran, choose flight + car. I chose dates in Feb/March 2020. For me came out at about £1750 for 4 people. Orlando and Miami are about the same price if you want hotter temps.

Booked asimilar deal for family of 4 for last 2 weeks of August this summer - was about1700 for BA flights incl bags into SJC out of LAX. Then i was met withthe hotel prices!! In case it helps, we ended up with this itinerary– we’re traveling with our kids aged 7 & 5, so all rooms are 2x queens:

4 nights SF - Emblem Hotel (Viceroy Group) -bargain on travelzoo at the moment, came in at £145 a night vs £300 orso normal
2 nights Calistoga - Up Valley Inn or Calistogamotor lodge, not decided yet...
2 nights Monterey - Portola Hotel
1 night Pismo area - Casa Grande - looks a bit oldschool but arriving late and leaving early
3 nights Vegas - Venetian
3 nights San Diego - Intercontinental
1 night LA - tbc

A few things i found sorting this over the lastcouple of weeks....
1 - pricing in California around then is crazy -£300 a night easy for very average places...especially Yosemite and Big Sur…anddon’t even start on Disney…

2 – Allegiant air flies from Big Sur (SantaMaria and Monterey) to Las Vegas – if you do the flight plus hotel deals ontheir website you can save a significant amount vs booking them separately (egVenetian is working out at £290 per night for 3 nights for 4 people, includingflights from Santa Maria to LV to San Diego)

3 – Hotels.com worked out best on most occasions, especially with the 1 free in 10, but lots of hotels offer a best rateguarantee if you book direct even though they’re often not the cheapest – so usethat to price match and they usually give an upgrade or further discount for notbeing cheapest

4 – Keep an eye on travelzoo for specials, seem to be a few that move around and have decent offers if they coincide withyour dates

I have spent months backpacking around the US on Greyhound/Amtrak/Megabus etc.. All the the motel chains are about the same. Just aboid the ones with bad reviews. ie less then about 6.5 on Booking.com.

It can be worth using Wyndham and/or Choice websites to book as they can have pretty good loyalty promotions and those 2 cover the majority of the chain motels.

The last 2 weeks of August shouldn't be the most expensive as schools go back mid August, buy as you point out it is a pricy time of year. Las Vegas will be scorchio in August...

Good advice, Hotels.com is my go to booking site. Someone on this site pointed out a 10% off voucher that is valid for all of this year, though it probably won't work with most major chains and the 1 night free in 10 deal you always get is nearly as good (works out at about 9% off equivalent.)
We done the whole LA to SF drive, staying 3 nights over on the way up, cheap accommodation everywhere but San Fan, that is very high prices.

I would also say get a 7 seater to take all your bags.

Very fair point, we went in August so didn't stop to think about it!

Even a daytime tour would be worth it IMO.
been to san Francisco a few times and the last time we went we visited Angel island (only because it was part of the alcatraz visit) but after going to Angel island we would definitely return, it has a lot of history and you get great views of sanfransico, you can actually camp on the island also hire bikes to go round and they do have music events there from what I've read
Come and see Humber Bridge instead. Nice British holiday.
