Heineken 5 Litre Draught Keg £9.75 - a Bargain!

Maybe it's national but I found these in Tesco Superstore by Kennington/Vauxhall SE11. These were best before end August 2018.
5 litres = 8.8 pints so £1.10 per pint
Ideal for parties as something a bit different from the usual cans/bottles - great talking point as it's a bit novel.
Cool 10 hours in fridge beforehand (remove shelves?)
Drink within 30 days of opening (not difficult)
Draught Quality Pressure System, 5% ALC. VOL.

Nope... beer won’t be affected as the sugar occurs naturally during the fermentation process. It’s not added to the drink like Coca Cola/Pepsi etc

No. Sugars from the malts/grains are turned to alcohol by the yeast.

Er... yes, but how do you think the sugars are extracted from the malt... during fermentation
Perfect..also 5% on top off..

You have to now build your own mini bar just to make these kegs look nicer.
Ok for parties but gimmicky for home drinking
Stated £15 on the shelf, took it to the till to try my luck and scanned through at £9.75! I may stock up! Their selection of kegs. was quite impressive

No. Extracted during the Mash. Converted to alcohol during fermentation

5 litres of foam.

Foam party yay!
Foam?? Ive had one before and it was perfectly fine. Stood it up in my fridge for 48 hours - perfect

thanks op might pop into my local later see if any left there was a few there on saturday
Rather drink my own liquid waste
Anyone know if these can be reused for homebrew please?
Bought a Budweiser keg a few years ago. Chilled it down for 48 hour before but nearly every glass I poured, half was foam. A bit disapointed to be honest.
Those complaining about foam, Dutch beer needs to have two fingers wide of foam on top. If you pour the beer straight down, most of the glass will be full of foam. Tilt the glass at a 45 degree angle and pour on the side of the glass and you'll get a perfect beer.

This is not correct.

The sugar is extracted from the grain during the mash stage. It is then reduced during the boil. During fermentation the Yeast consumes the fermentable sugar extracted from the mash. I say fermentable as not all the starch converted sugar can be transformed into alcohol, that is why some beers have more of a malt body to them.

I was thinking the same. I do not think so as the top part of the keg has changed. It seems to have a different mechanism from the older style.

The temperature of the keg impacts the serving pressure and the amount of foam you got. I would suggest either venting the top release for a longer period of time or serving at a slightly warmer temperature.
