That's right. Who needs unilever. Tesco do a range which contains the same white stuff but at a cheaper price!

Incomparable.

yuk!

It's just eggs whipped up with oil, Unilever having a laugh, Tesco all the way for me.

It's the same but it's also incomparable?

if u buy two of these
add 1 tsp. garlic paste
half tsp parsley dry
some salt n red chill and add half bottle of water
now mix by electric hand blender n u got yourself lovely house sauce

After always swearing by Hellmanns my wife bought some Heinz mayo a while back and I profferd it (just like I did Branston beans to Heinz ones as well after swearing by Heinz beans for years).

Bought some of the Aldi mayo a little while ago and don't like that at-all.

It's not all the same, but for me Hellmanns is not the best (just try a few others).

Winiary mayo is by far the best.

Homemade with rapeseed oil is the only one for me

I'm usually more than happy with Tesco Everyday Value, but this is one of those cases where you have to stay away from it. There are actually two ways of making mayonnaise. The common one is with eggs and oil, but you can also make mayonnaise with starch and oil. This pot is an example of a starch-based mayonnaise. Just look at the ingredient list. Before you even get to the eggs they have added plenty of cornstarch and corn syrup before they even come to eggs (2%?! really?).

Stay away from this pot and buy real mayonnaise (yes, normal Tesco, Heinz, etc are all great alternatives to Hellmanns. Just not this everyday value junk.)

Actually the only thing similar is the amount of salt in both products. Carbohydrate, Saturated Fat, Protein and Sugar levels all differ drastically.

I like to get some brick dust and a bit of sawdust and some slate mix it in and voila house sauce.

Somebody eats this crap??? Bloody hell....this one is worst of the worst....
And if about prices - they eventually will go up by 10-20% next year. Pound to Euro already 1 to 1 at exchanges...

are there any British mayonnaise that are actually "tangy" like the South African ones? I can't seem to make decent potato salad with these British mayonnaise. and the south African mayonnaise that are available from certain retailers cost an arm & leg.

Not sure if South African mayo is like the US product 'Miracle Whip', but if it is, then there isn't an equivalent over here.

There is an totally unjustified snob value in buying top brand names.
Blind taste tests prove it.

Best deal ever at 0.4p each that's 5 jars for just 2p!

A recent blind taste test, The BBC 1 food program (Eat Well for Less?) found that most people didn't like Hellmanns Mayonnaise as much as Aldi Mayonnaise oO Surprise ! Surprise !

And you believe this??? Done for money, nothing more. Same as Which? does reviews - whoever pays more, their goods are best....
