does anyone know why these are so expensive?

Yes, because they designed to last the test of time unlike others

By the way OP "Hoover is a brand name" these are actually "Vacuum Cleaners" lol just being picky!

Not a Hoover.

Voted hot.

Not actually as reliable as perceived, I have bought a couple that had died out of warranty, but parts supply is great, common failure parts readily available, they are great if dealing with after effects of building works!!.not sure I would use as everyday cleaner, upright much easier on back!!

I think it's ok to call it a hoover. It's basically become part of the language. Technically yeah, boring boring, but who actually calls it a 'vacuum cleaner' in everyday speech?

Also, they don't last as long as you'd think, mostly because you'll end up kicking the sh*t out of it when you become so exasperated at the flipping thing getting stuck behind every corner, table leg, doors, obstacles that aren't even there...

Doesn't handle large amounts of dust so well, as others have said, but spares are readily available and you'll get 20 years out of this easy.

Well, according to this:

luvsadealdealdeal

It's 'dust handling' capabilities seem to be handled just dandy ... oO

Ps.
No idea what 'dust' that is though?.

The girl one is Hetty and not Henrietta.

This morning I spread the Lurpak on my Hovis before squirting the Colgate on my Oral-B then I was about to bathe under the Triton but I tripped over the bloody vacuum.

Hmm, it's been over a day and no one's asked you where you brought it to! This site is going down hill.

Seems to be the 'hoover' of choice for business... Personally think it's utter crap... Do you seriously have to throw away the bags every time its full? Totally blowing my goddamn budget where I work...

Totally agree. Pipes get loose and fittings fall off.

get bags from Ebay - why do you say they're expensive? http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=numatic+bags&rt=nc&LH_BIN=1

50p-60p each

On a serious note, we have a George. Before it, we always had bagless vacuum cleaners. I, too, didn't like the idea of spending money on bags.

What I've found, however, is that we only need to change the bag once every 6 months - and we vacuum almost daily, as we are a family with children who never seem to stop leaving crumbs everywhere.

Also, the problem with bagless machines, aside from being less powerful than Numatics, as that dust tends to escape while emptying (which would have to be done weekly as opposed to half yearly).

We bought George five years ago and he hasn't let is down once. And still incredibly powerful. I recommend Numatics.

These were like £69 2 years ago. Nearly as bad as a tin of chopped toms. Someones making money somewhere.

Excellent Observation!

You could use it without bags and just with the filter, but it's not recommended...

Had my hetty over 10 years, never had an issue and it works great now just like it did to start with, would recommend them.

As I've said on many a posting on here I've had my Henry since 1989 - given to us as a wedding present he is still going strong - I don't use bags on him but I do make sure I look after him, clean him out regularly etc in return he does a good job.

He's had his handle replaced as someone used him as a step and it snapped off other than that he is still as he was when we got him and we wouldn't change him.

Thank you

Best vacuum I've owned it's made easy to use with extra long cord.

i absolutely hate ours. It gets stuck on everything is a **** to store easily and does my back in. I want to kick in straight in its smiley face. The obnoxious litte b*****.
We bought 10 bags when we bought the hoover about 5 years ago and still have a couple left and if your really tight you don't have to use them anyway.
Its OK picking up bits but I'm not blown away by it....but it works so can't justify buying a new vac/hoover/etc
Decent price but we only paid a few quid more years ago so they must change much.
