Hertz rent 2 buy - Ex hire cars at discounted prices

Hertz have started to sell cars at discounted prices. All less than 3 years old FSH and better prices than you can expect from a main dealer!

The only catch is that it's an Ex hire car.... That being said I've had mine for over a year now and touch wood never had a problem with it!

If you're looking at changing your car consider this!

This a great idea.... which car did you buy?

Clarkson approved.

Had a quick browse looks pretty good low mileage, young cars & a decent repayment scheme. May consider this option when changing my car. Thanks OP

for clarification, with the mileages of the car on offer, I would say these are ex- contract hire (leasing) and not the daily hire cars.

thanks

That's one very useful web site, bookmarked for future. Thanks

I would agree they are ex contract hire, my company buy ones like these and they are spot on, they are usually very well looked after. My current one is I think ex hertz and was on contract hire to audi.

Not to mention bomb proof engines that can be driven on the red line all day long.

Nice find OP - hot from me!

No, just no

Bear in mind people might have driven pretty badly ... hire car's tend to get abosed compared to one's own car so might potentially be more expensive in the future. But could get yourself an absolute find too!

Prices aren't that special.

nice deal

I always drive hire cars with care

Terrible web site

terrible website but not bad prices.

I used to buy ex-hire cars from car auctions. There are special sales of these "one owner" vehicles. Generally they are a better bet than a private sale, or even one from a small trader, as you know they will have been well serviced, no hp, not nicked, and they usually have the remainder of the manufacture's warrenty to fall back on. Modern cars can take a fair amount of hammer. However there are some niggling downsides to look out for are they may (will) have been unloved but these should be easy to fix. Look out for higher mileage (although may not be a problem) and check the feel of the clutch, steering, brakes, and engine. There will likely be minor body dents/scratches, cracked glass and scratched alloys, cigarette burns in seats, missing bits like spare tyres, filler caps, and service stamps.

I always tend to develop a sinister laugh when I drive hire/courtesy cars.

Having known plenty of private owners who've bought cars on credit then couldn't afford to service them, and mainly driven them to and from work four or five miles away, the last thing I'd want is a car privately-owned from new.

hope the cars go a little faster than their webs(h)ite...

Cheers for sharing. Website is slow cause there's a lot of HUKD users looking for a deal.

Anyone know what the locations are? So far I've managed to work out that one of them is Heathrow airport.

That just isn't true

Buying this is a bit like marrying a prostitute, considering the amount of people who had it and abused it.

Regardless of what's said on top gear, people usually drive hire cars with care because they don't want to pay for damage.

Wowee! approved by an overweight opinionated oaf. Must be good then.

Ex-rentals aren't bad. Just your standard boring cars that you wouldn't wanna spend too much on anyway. My dad got a Vectra from ex-Enterprise rent-a-car. Pretty much mint condition and a lot cheaper than any dealer prices. Soul-less car though

Words of warning - from someone who's worked for a Hertz franchise in the past.

The franchise I worked for NEVER serviced any of their vehicles, just topped up fluids (usually) when required. We even had mice living in a Ford Galaxy we rented out as it didn't get used that much (true story).

The difference may be if you get a non-franchised vehicle (Hertz is split into franchises and national company branches). The Nationals may well look after their stock much better.

The only downside I can see is that they are not going to take your old car part-ex like a second hand car sales/ dealership would, I may be wrong but I can't see them wanting to be lumbnered with a pile of older higher milage cars than they started out with .
