Got one of these at work and the quality is stunning (way better than your average home printer). Cartidge prices are scarey but are huge so will last your average user a good year+. There's 8 in my office printing maps, multi page word docs, had the printer 3 months and have only changed the black cartridge..

It's easy to create impressive colour documents with HP's lowest priced colour laser printer. Achieve fast speeds of up to 8 ppm colour and black and white, and enjoy superior print quality with HP ColorSphere toner and HP Imageret 2400 technology.

And how much are the drums? Im guessing around £50 for each colour....

Yes £50-£60 per colour, so about £200-£240 altogether including black.

Although most suppliers are still selling the Laserjet 1600 for around £170, HP themselves have just reduced the VAT inclusive SRP to £129.
I've found one HP accredited seller (findmysupplies.co.uk) who are now selling the 1600 for just £112.20 including VAT and including free delivery. I'd imagine that most other suppliers will reduce their prices soon, especially if they have a stocking agreement with HP.
Oh, by the way, be aware that the toner cartridges supplied with the 1600 are only part filled with enough for around 1,000 pages each. The full cartridges are rated at 2,000 pages (colours) and 2,500 (black) and a full set would cost around £170 including VAT and delivery (I've used ebuyer for these prices).

£105 ]here, with no mention of delivery costs.

as for the ink cartridges supplied with the printer, they are at least half empty (or half full?). Quote from HP site:

4x HP Color LaserJet Introductory Print Cartridges (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) with HP ColorSphere Toner with up to 1,000 pages yield (based on 5% coverage).

the standard yeild of a brand new replacement cartridge is:
£53 black 2500
£58 colours 2000
presumably plus p&p.
Similar previous posts sugested this printer's cartridges can be successfully refilled cheaply.
