As supplied, it tunes in 5khz steps from 4.75 to 21.85Mhz, in continuous bands, as well as MW and VHF FM. In the garden I couldn't detect a local oscilaltor frequency so opened up the case (thus invalidating any guarantee!) and found inside a AKC 6955 Digital Signal Processing chip at its heart!

On the 'net I have found the datasheet in Japanese but with the odd word in English. This datasheet suggested that the radio might be modified to 3kHz channels and also Long Wave, different MW ranges and other VHF bands ("TV bands 1 and 2", but you'd have to take a soldering iron to the smd board for that.

So this is a "radio simple, computer complex" set, and I think I've seen the chip addressed by an Ardino somewhere, so it has great potential.

And in its correct state, great for some shorwave broadcast listening on the beach

Does anyone know if this will as a 'ghost box'or 'franks box' where it will continuously keep scanning. My partner is into ghost hunting and apparently spirits will leave messages in the white noise (I don't believe it myself personally). this would be ideal for her if it does. As there about £50 on eBay for a rebranded radio.

Not sure They Are Called "Spirit Boxes" It is believed that Spirits can broadcast through white noise
on FM & AM from what I can find but I'm unclear about how suitable this would be.
However , It Will Play "Spirit In The Sky" When Tony Blackburn Does 1970 On Pick Of The Pops !!!

. Much of their electrical stuff is made in Germany and I've found to be excellent. In this particular example its not about what you have seen but more of what you can hear I believe.

With 'jase99' it doesn't matter about the quality, he denigrates virtually anything from aldi/lidl. Keep an eye out and he pops up here or there-always negative.
ps. its usually on food threads, he's been a little quiet lately, probably putting in extra shifts at morissons, at least until he is made redundant. I know this sounds a little odd but this guy is worth watching!!

you're not sad, you've just become fascinated by the workings of a troll because, let's face it, why they exist is a bit like religion, pork scratchings and the green party... all unfathromable and yet fascinating for all that. don't beat yourself up... just ignore him, even though it's difficult, like one would struggle not to stare at a mole on a pretty woman's chin or a crumpled yet suspiciously full john lewis bag in a bin.

This is a truly memorable collection of letters on a page, put together to form incomprehensible techno babble.

It's absolutely marvellous and gets a heat on the strength of it.

Silvercrest doesn't seem to bad, I got a universal remote for £6 odds a few years ago, with backlight, 10 devices macros, lcd display etc, still works and still got a lot more features than anything I have seen since at that price.

Probably as with most cheap electronics will be hit and miss.

Great! My ancient Woolies radio has started losing MW.Can't complain though bought it for £4.99 and had it over 20 years.Wish every radio lasted as long.Heat added.:D

My 16 year old £5 Matsui transistor that I use in the bathroom is still going strong otherwise I'd have been very tempted.

silvercrest and quality don't sound together but hey might get one for that price, more than adequate for my weekend fishing trips.

So this is not just any bog standard cheap radio but a hackable High Quality Silvercrest SWED 100A AKC 6955 DSP Chip Digital Multi-Band FM/MW/SW Portable Radio made in China but designed in Germany. X)

Deserves a heat for sugar coat a no-frills global discount store chain branded portable radio.

Can't go wrong with a cheap tranny.

Your all going radio gaga

So is this radio as good as the Crystal Set that I used in the 1950's until it blew a valve earlier this week. Not sure whether they are still making the valves. I am already missing the Home Service.
I never had to buy a license for the wireless set, so I am hoping that I will, not have to buy one for this new radio thingamajig.
