Not a great gaming card but a good card for a HTPC or a casual gamer. Features include:

Dual DVI
HD Video acceleration
Audio over HDMI when using ATI DVI/HDMI adapter (not included)
Low power consumption at idle compared to Nvidia cards in same price range.

It’s available for collection in store for £35.25.
Quidco available at 3% excluding delivery & VAT.
Manufacturer’s link is HERE.

Note: HD 2600 XT GDDR3 cards typically have low power consumption at idle but it depends on whether the manufacturer implemented the power saving features; from what I’ve seen HIS do implement this feature but I can’t vouch for this specific card as I’ve not read a review.

Any idea how wide this card is - will it cover the adjacent slot?

Judging from the photo it’s a single slot cooler with a fairly large fan so it’s hard to say. I’d ask HIS if i was you to confirm.

Sort of dependant on mobo as well is it not?

Thanks for posting that.

Excellent price, and a good card especially for Media Centres, performs just below the 8600GT in most games. Thought personally if I were gaming I would buy the 7900GS.

From the picture and details provided I would say that is a single slot fan/heatsink, however it does look relatively small, so could get a bit noisy...

Good point. If it’s classified as a single slot cooler though it ‘should’ fit just about any motherboard as I imagine that the ATX spec may well include minimum distances between adjacent slots. Provided the card you install underneath it doesn’t have anything protruding above its PCB it should be fine.

If anybody is concerned about fan noise then they have the
HIS HD 2600XT Zalman 512MB GDDR3 PCIe Dual DVI
for £38.78, guess this is the same animal but with a zalman fan
which is supposed to be quieter???

Nice find but seemingly no stock unfortunately - novatech.co.uk/nov…XTZ

whoops did not spot that. stock situation.......... think i might try for one of these Zalman cards when the stock is back in, however when i go to the HIS manual online it says it requires "A 550 Watt or better power supply." my power supply is only 300watt, does this 550 watt requirement seem excessive or is it buy and try?

These don’t even require a 6 pin PCIe power connector as far as I can tell so 300W will be fine provided you don’t have a monster over-clocked CPU and 6 hard drives etc.

i used to have one of these and they are single slot.... quite as a mouse and about the height of a normal expansion card slot (the silver thing on the back of ur pc ;-) ) and can run crysis at medium --> high with 2GB ram and dual core! well worth £35!

Not particulaly, the spacing between slots is standardised. That's why there's no trouble getting card backplates to line up with the slots in a case.

Of course, it's possible the motherboard may not have am adjacent slot there to start with but I don't think that situation is that common.

which one did you have Jack010.............the one with standard fan or the zalman fan??if the standard fan is that quiet maybe i do not need to spend the other £5
