Based on author Philip Pullman's bestselling and award-winning novel, The Golden Compass tells the first story in Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy.

The Golden Compass is an exciting fantasy adventure, set in an alternative world where people's souls manifest themselves as animals, talking bears fight wars, and Gyptians and witches co-exist. At the center of the story is Lyra, a 12-year-old girl who starts out trying to rescue a friend who's been kidnapped by a mysterious organization known as the Gobblers - and winds up on an epic quest to save not only her world, but ours as well.

Indeed, I posted several of those in the OP, but many vendors have this for more than £22. Not major savings to be had I concur, but this was the cheapest price I could find for this new Blu-Ray release, and therefore worthy of mention. Hardly a cold deal is it...although the HUKD temperature would seem to indicate otherwise!

:lazy: I'd so totally wait for this to drop in price, as it's a terrible film! Not based on a comparison with the book, as I've never read them, but as a standalone movie...

The books are truly excellent and well worth picking up. Film isn't too bad, but I was under orders from SWWBO to find the DVD for those in the family who missed it at the cinema.
