dont get me wrong, this card is as powerful as ati6870. only 7 left,so be quick if u dont want to wait for ati7000. think ati7850 wont be any better than 5850, in real life performance.

too expensive for old tech, buy the 6000 series for just a little more.

On a price/performance ratio the 5850 re-release is unbeatable in my eyes. I bought one of the Sapphire cards back in April for the same price and it handles practically everything i've thrown at it in full-ish spec at 1080p

1. Price: 6870 similar performance, with lower power consumption, but this is cheaper up front
2. vs. 7850: All the spec sheets I've seen put the 7850 as a 28nm die-shrink of the 6950, and of course they're not out until next year

So, on balance, HOT

I have a 5850 & a 5870, and TBH there's not really much in it ! The 5850 is better than the 6850, strangely.
£100 is a nice price, but I wouild still be tempted to find the extra £20-£30 and get a cheap 6870...

hmmm, worth xfiring my existing 5850? Or wait for 7000 series ...

'think ati7850 wont be any better than 5850, in real life performance.'

7850 is the direct replacement for the 5850, so expect at least a 50% increase. 5850 is almost 3 years old. 7850 will presumably have the tessellation improvements of the 6900 cards which can make a big difference in some games.

It's almost 2 years old, not 3 and a 5850 is better than a 6850, closer to a 6870 infact.

Not in DX11 it isn't.

Get a 6870 instead of this, the energy savings will pay for the extra 30 quid within a few months.

Hot from me. Faster than a 6850 for the same price and they overclock like beasts if reference design (picture shows reference design).

I added a second 5850 earlier this year and the performance is brilliant when Crossfire is working properly, with a slight OC you're essentially getting 5970 performance, which beats a 580GTX in certain games that aren't heavily optimised for Nvidia cards. Only problem is AMD have been pretty useless with their Crossfire profiles lately so a number of new releases haven't made use of a second card, most older games scale very well though.

For anyone thinking of getting a 7000 card instead when they release, remember that the high end cards won't release until possibly late spring time, which could be quite a wait. Also 2 of these cards will likely outperform the mid and low range GPUs scheduled for late this year, early next year, with the 7800 series probably performing similarly with the current 6900 lineup, just with better power consumption.

You can get a 6850 for the same price, but it's not as good and a 6870 is about £20-30 more for only a slight boost in DX11 performance.

Please note this will only have a 1 year warranty on it, the manufacturers warranty will be out of date by now.

Probably because the 6870 WAS the replacement of the 5850, with the 6970 being the replacement for the 5870, personally waiting for the 7000 which are release in January, and released to the press in 5 days time.
