Out the box I'd agree.

Change a few settings though and it's lovely.

apparently you can get 1 of 2 different panels - and the samung cheap 4k is aweful (a lot of user reviews)

I must have the good panel then!

Where did you read that btw?
I bought a 50 inch Hisense 6 months ago for £280 and it's been great. Smart features are rubbish but I use my PS4 for Amazon, YouTube etc. The picture quality is brilliant for the price and stands up well next to the LCD Sony I had previously.

I'll eat my hat!
Bought this in the recent 20% off ebay promo, got the maximum £50 off to give a final price of £450. I am on my way to pick it up from my local argos now - doubt I will get the £10 argos voucher as it was via ebay. I will report back on the image quality and the TV in general.

it was, but recent update has made it one of the best.

still unsure myself though, had one reserved but changed my mind
I have one of the 55" 4K hisense TVs. It's not a bad set, don't expect to have as granular control of the pic settings as a high end sammy/Sony though. Does good enough for gaming, dnla streaming and hd telly is reasonable. Wouldn't punt more than £400 tops though on one - £500 too expensive by a good £100 imo
Another set where you're paying for 4K and the 4K picture doesn't compete with decent 1080p panels. Pointless having 4K on this

Where was this info from? I'd expect Samsung or Chimei Innolux rather than LG and Samsung.

30ms ,so the actually pretty good for a tv

Its the other way round iirc , they produce panels for mid tier range of other companies

Does it do HDR?

Yes and no , it does play 8bit HDR demo ( looks amazing balls) but it was designed before the HDR standard was finalised which is 1000nits of brightness and 10bit panel among other things .
I bought this TV today.
But the model what they gave me is Hisense LTDN55K321UWTS.Is that same as 55EC591U?
Out of box the picture is not to good but after about 1hr of tweaks is ok for me.
HD contents are ok,SD crap, but 4K on bulit Netflix app are awesome.
Youtube app can play only HD I think and not 4K.
After tweaks with picture settings colours are really good, blacks are blacks etc.
Search on internet for tips settings for that model.
Cannot blame this TV as for under 500gbp 4K 55" smart functions is reallly good.
I have some firends with sony's,lg's HD or 4K tv's and cannot see the big diffrence except the price(they pay a lot more).

Samsung and LG have been using other manufacturers panels in their mid to low range TVs for ages mate.

All companies do.

LG since at least 2008
techradar.com/new…564

I believe both Samsung and LG are both currently buying panels from BOE (huge manufacturer of TV panels).

digitimes.com/new…tml

This Hisense also has a BOE panel. I really should have said this has the same panel that's in a lot of mid/low-range LG and Sammy TVs.

Richer Sounds used to sell a range of Hitachi TVs which didn't have built in speakers of tuners. Most people add a sound bar or av receiver anyway so a waste of space having built in speakers. Also many people will have Sky or Virgin so no need to use the built in digibox. I'd much prefer to buy just a TV panel and nothing else so it would be as thin as possible.

An observation I made today while watching the F1, Redbull use Hisense TVs/monitors which they mount on the front of the cars when in the garage. Not that this means they're good or bad.

One link is from 2008, 8 years ago the 2nd is about outsourcing manufacturing not buying in from a competitor.

Somebody failed to post what they thought they were saying! Your comment suggested Hisense make screens for lower/mid range Samsung's and LG's.

The old link is to highlight how long they've been doing it mate.

You said "Samsung and LG do not use anyone elses panels in their TV's!"

That's utter tosh (!!!)

They buy a lot in from BOE (and other big panel manufacturers).

That's not "outsourcing".

It would be outsourcing if BOE didn't make panels for most TV manufacturers and if the same panels weren't used in other TVs.

Nobody said LG or Samsung buy from competitors. Just that they use panels from the big Chinese and Taiwanese manufacturers like everybody else in their cheaper sets and that it's perfectly possible to get exactly the same panel in a non-brand TV as you'll also find in an LG and a Sammy.

That was probably my fault.

I meant this is the same panel you'll find in many mid-tier LG and Sammy TVs, but neglected to be specific. Apologies.

Never argue with a pigeon and all that...
To answer some questions on here

Who manufactures the panel? - The panel is Hisense's own panel (native refresh is 60HZ (400Hz SMR) on this model and 8Bit FRC) - please bear in mind this is only an entry level 4K - if you need higher specs look at the K700

Is there more than one panel? - Some models may have slightly different panels but this does not apply to the 55k321

Is it good for gaming? - With the latest software input lag is measured at 50ms in game mode which is reasonable. For reference the 65k700 is 32ms

YouTube only buffers in HD - YouTube will buffer in 4K on the next update which will happen around May.

Does this model support HDR? - No (Although local playback support might be added in a future update but this will not have any impact on picture quality

Is the EC591 and K321 the same TV? - Yes they are exactly the same

Another Tip - HDMI ports 1 & 2 are HDMI 1.4a. Only ports 3 & 4 support HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2

Hope this helps
