I might be the only one not knowing the answer but does having Canadian National Trust membership entitle you entry into other countries National Trust venues?

andrzejkwecka

I only know because I was there two weeks ago and assured myself in keeping the membership ;)

Debbie_Shaw

Thank you for the info (y) XD sorry was just going off the prices on the Edinburgh Castle website, can’t believe it’s £19.50 usually. Definitely a saving then going for the annual membership!

andrzejkwecka

Edinburgh Castle is £19.50 these days. £17.50 is advanced purchase remember you get 50% off English Heritage for 1st year of membership and after that, if you renew your membership (do not cancel), English Heritage attractions are for free for Historic Environment Scotland members.

pannan

Tax was $60 so came out at $130 - still a good saving though

Annoyed I only noticed this now. Everything near edinburgh gone but still space for stirling and doune castles

Rome07

Yes mate was disappointed at first as Edinburgh castle wasnt available but went back on and got them, saved 60 pound, brilliant

ad811RAK

How did you book? I’m selecting Stirling castle and it flashes away the second I hover over it. If I just then try to book tickets for the 30th it charges me full price

Regprentice

Still Edinburgh Castle tickets available for 5 slots on Sunday 1st December. The calendar is blanked out for that date, but if you select 1/12 the tickets are there. I Can't visit then as I've family coming. Would have taken tickets for 30th but that day isn't there.

alexs80

Got tickets for Stirling. First year I`ve encountered this system. Usually it's very quick. Not good that it has gone out a day early. Also, many venues in the central belt are closed at this time of year so there are limits. I suspect...maybe...there are so many Scottish people wishing to visit the venues for free at this time of year that Historic Scotland are limiting the numbers so that they can gather more paid revenue at a future date...just a thought

Playing devil's advocate and tongue firmly in cheek.... (highfive) Nationalism anywhere else in the world outside of Scotland might be/have been called a teensie bit racist...

Grumpy_Cat

What about the zombie party rising from the dead and chasing the SNP out the highlands? :D

wild_quinine

English attitudes to Scotland during the first indy ref pushed me strongly towards Yes. I'm sure as heck not going to vote No just in case some racists get upset.

chapchap

45 to 55% isn’t a clear “no “ and in my books and I don’t care who says it is ;) If you talk about other people from the UK moving to Scotland and voting to remain then they are sadly outnumbered by the rapidly aging Scots who voted to remain. Nothing is inevitable but separation....seems that way at the mo.

Hope it helped to make your mind up where to go.

avalonsunset

Hi watchspring That is helpful - thanks a lot. Best wishes

deleted88990

Hi Sorry never got back earlier. Answer you're looking for might depend on YOUR location and transport availability. I can thoroughly recommend the 3D castles Dumbarton, Doune and Dirleton. Dumbarton is relatively compact, has excellent views on clear days, but does have a downside as the internal paths and walkways are quite steep so might not be suitable to everyone. Doune is excellent with surrounding excellent walks .Look out for the coconuts. Dirleton is also excellent, especially if you live further east. The extra advantage it has [ if you're up for it] is it's close proximity to Tantallon castle. If you start out early[ish] you can capture two castles in one day. These castles don't have tearooms, so take a picnic with you, even if you've got to sit in your car because of the weather. If you will be travelling by car all four are normally easy to park at. If you've got a VAN, keep the music down. Have a good weekend. Hope it stays dry for you

[QUOTE=munnski;5256222]If you sign up for the 6months free do you have to pay for the year, ie 6months, or can you cancel after 6months? Also does anyone know what places you get into as the website doesn't say :? if you click Find your nearest property there's a download on the left hand side. A great saving as admission to Edinburgh castle is £12 per adult.
