I just posted this same deal literally a minute after you

Is it wi-fi ??

Is it wi-fi ??

it requires a wifi dongle which is sold separately

No. Needs a dongle. You can buy one at the same time for about £12.50.

Good price, Hitachi though...need reviews

This or the 42 inch LG LG 42LN540V for £310? not fussed with the 2 inch difference but which is better?

I was pleasantly surprised with the picture on this one, but haven't seen the LG, so can't compare. This one is better than others I've seen on show in shops

not sure how far that applies in the TV world, but I did read that the Poloroid brand was licensed off to a Chinese company that now make the Polaroid TV's. So all may not be what it seems. But big names like Hitachi who've been making TV's for decades are hopefully still all good..?

Not bad deal as long you realize its wont be Hitachi just Argos own brand ie Vestel manufactured like
most budget super market TV,s
Hitachi have licensed their brand name to Argos in the UK. Hitachi have no involvement in the design of manufacture of Hitachi branded TVs in the UK.

Toshiba, Bush, Hitachi and Alba are
once great names stuck onto a bog
standard TV for Argos. Made in Turkey?
- Maybe. Personally I would not buy
any of them as they are usually last
years technology ie you have to buy
a dongle for this Hitachi. Save up or pay
the little extra for an LG, Samsung,
or Panasonic. Have a good New Year
everyone.

Does this have HDMI-CEC?

Really? good to know thanks for that. So good old Hitachi isn't what it use to be then? Our first TV whn we were kids was a Hitachi. Massive brown box, 4 channels no remote. I believe its still works to. Ah memories :-)

Better off spending the extra and getting the Sony KDL-40R473A which is far better than LG 42LN540V and this Hitachi TV!

Polaroid TVs seem to be the "In house" TV at Asda now.

Hitachi to stop making TVs in 2012
Pulls out of manufacturing in Japan

Get the Curry's LG, stonkingly excellent set!

I purchased the LG from Currys also at £279, Picture is bright and crisp. Got free delivery also!

Dont think Sharp led tvs are made in Turkey, they did in middle 90s as they took over the crt side from Sharp as Sharp wanted to concentrate on the lcd side, Sharp are in Osaka Japan, also China which i believe Lenovo may have bought into, and i think a few other smaller manufacturing plants which i cant remember but im sure not Turkey.
prove me wrong?

Does anyone know what dongle this uses or where to get one ?

look at special offers with this tv as its £12 when you buy with tv otherwise its £24.99 like here argos.co.uk/sta…htm

After reading around I wouldn't call this a good deal, pay a little extra and get a good branded TV. The big problem for me with this TV is the sound.

2 x 6 watts RMS power output

Better add some speakers or a sound bar to your order.

And I know my partners parents has brought one of these today, so if anything does crop up and add to the thread.

Tosh and hitachi maybe. But alba and bush were always budget brands as far back as i can remember. (Mid 80's)

What appears to be nearasdammit same Vestel-assembled TV but branded Finlux is supplied complete with wifi dongle at £289 delivered from Finlux official ebay shop.
Main difference between the H & F branding appears to be the product numbers, remote design and frame colour ?

Old news that pretty much everyone here already knows, and it doesn't stop this from being a good deal.
I wouldn't mind, but people go on about brands like Hitachi, and supermarket TV's etc being rebadged Vestel models, when in fact even LG, Samsung, Sharp, etc also have their badge stuck on TV's made by Vestel and other OEM's...

If it's a good TV for the money, it's a good TV for the money regardless of what name is stuck on the front.

Yes, Sharp's low-mid range TV's are re-badged Vestel sets made in Turkey (that's been known for ages, not sure if they've changed it recently, but the service manual with some Sharp LCD TV's even stated they were manufactured by Vestel).
Only their high end models are manufactured at their Polish plant (for Euro models that is).

Bush and Alba brand names are owned by the Home Retail Group.
ie. Argos and Homebase.

Further 3% increased cashback at Topcashback too!

Great price for a smart LED TV - most, including
LG, at this price are LCD only, and so not quite as sharp or colourful.

This one is LCD as well (LED back lit) would think all TVs now would be LED back lit as CCFL is fairly old tech now
More expensive to manufacture than LED so even the cheapest ones are now LED

Think these re branded vestal TVs are ok though dont think would pay this much for one though when
you can get Samsung 42 TV for only £20 more

Not bad..

Bought this recently, awesome tv

what apps can you download on this. do all smart tv have the same. Im after itv player. bbc iplayer and 4od? thanks

Bought this today thanks
Tv is great

Hi techno phobic question here, decided for this price to update our old Sony 32" as seperate freeview set top box we had was going dodgy! The Hitachi arrived yesterday, set it up to be told by Argos helpline that unlike with our old basic tv with seperate freeview box this model will not let me record a series on freeview! I would have to go and buy a seperate freeview box to record which just looking at costs minimimum £99-£150! Is this correct as if so this "upgrade" is gonna cost me nearly £400! Can someone reccomend a tv where I wont need to purchse another freeview box? Or should I stick with my Sony and just get a new freeview hd box? All i want is to be able to record a series of programmes, not bothered about the FB, Youtube features etc! Tia

Can you plug a hdd into this tv to allow recording, pause and rewind?
