Just saw an advert for this on TV, seems reasonable for a large screen smart LED tv.

Can't get full specs or url at the moment as Argos sit is being updated but took a photo of the screen to show the price.

I know they are made in Europe by UMC or Vestel or whatever but we've had a Hitachi LCD for 4 1/2 years with no problems. You can get problems with 'top' brands, I know as I have had them.

*edit* Wi-Fi dongle is £12.50 when bought with the TV (instead of £25) Thanks to Jojo69 for the info.

I tried to edit it into the deal link but it won't let me for some reason.

Seems a good deal for a 42inch screen with smart functions AND freeview HD.

People will knock it for being a rebranded whatever but we have had a 42inch LCD Hitachi (£400) for 4 1/2 years and it still works perfectly. My neighbour that spent £800 on a 42inch Panny plasma at the same time had to send it back for repair after 2 weeks!

Anyway, that is a fair bit of TV for £290 and should look great with an HD feed.

Thanks for adding the specs admin.

pic of screen, will update info when the Argos site is back up:

No, it's a new advert for the new brochure that starts tomorrow. Thats why the site is being updated.

Do you know the model?

My mate was in Argos tonight & its still £449 but was told to reserve it for collection tomorrow @ £289 when it goes on "sale"

Guys just reserved this tv via txt cat no.1474680. @£289

Bought it,thanks.

Hitachi now made for Argos like Bush, Wharfedale Alba etc
Good spec if stays reliable HOT

Bought it. Argos home page still down. Instead search google for "Hitachi 42 led smart" and specific Argos page for product will come up. Then you can reserve there (or even browse other tvs).

Cheap ....................................... and nasty

Good for anyone on a budget though.

Not that good a spec at all really. 50hz motion rate really lets it down for a tv of that size. Pretty average spec and price really. I'd steer clear as nothing special.

Any good for a bedroom tv ?

I think this TV can handle Babestation if that's what you want to know (_;)

If that's the case you may also want to check out this deal at the same time

Anyone know if this has inputs for optical audio??

Any idea on what apps it does for smart ? I can't find much info on this online.

Anyone know if picks up RTE's Saorview. Tis a bloody minefield trying to figure out which Argos ones do and don't. Very few do it seems. Argos definitely missing a trick through laziness.

Reserved one of these but while I was aware it is a cheap Argos rebrand I doubt I will bother to collect for the following reasons;

Argos provide no model number and its impossible to find any reviews

Description states that it is both HD ready and Full HD 1080?

The so called Smart Apps are limited and apparently not up-dateable on these HItachi sets?

Wifi dongle costs an extra £25

This item is excluded from the ARGOS 30 day money back guarantee.

Argos' onsite reviews have been disabled for this item (which is ominous)

Not on the newest models but I take your point

Is it just me or have the product images on this page stopped displaying?

No I posted a 32" smart TV deal where Amazon are giving away the dongle free when added to basket.

It's not really something I've thought much about, my bluray player has iplayer/c5/youtube and a few other bits. What do you get on a smart TV? The same things?

The 30 day money back thing seems a bit odd, doesn't say that on the 3 other TV's I just checked so probably worth clarifying that in store as it may be an error on the site.

Yes, the same apps, maybe.

Different brand TVs have different smart apps, all of your higher end brands like Samsung/LG/Sony/Panasonic have internet browers, some cheaper brands are sometimes very limited and have youtube, and BBC iplayer, but not much else.

I surf the net on my laptop whilst watching TV, I'd struggle to do both on the same screen.

If its the same as the Hitachi 40HXT16U you get the following but can't add any more..

BBC iPlayer Facebook Twitter Flickr Youtube

Just bought this today. Very nice TV if you want a large screen, LED full HD on a budget. The main apps on there are iPlayer, Youtube, Facebook and Twitter, then a bunch of I've not heard of. Doesn't appear to be a browser.
Set up is all very quick and easy (and allows reordering and deleting of channels - something Sky and Virgin boxes could do with!).
The EPG doesn't look too bad, although is a bit clunky and probably just takes some getting used to.
There's no optical audio port, which is a shame, but this is a very good price for what you get! Will definitely keep me happy for a couple of years

Should I be expecting much from it for gaming?

My concerns exactly... need an upgrade from my samsung 24" inch but worried about blur etc.

Can someone confirm the model number of this item? Cheers

Does this TV support HDMI-CEC?

Would also be good to know the model number!

Is in the new Argos book out today I want to buy this for my living room never mind bedroom
