Shame. Freeview HD should be standard these days on anything over £300.

gazz1246, you clearly know nothing about TV's and Samsung are primarily known for tecnology!!

If you are going to make stupid, uneducated comments, at least try to keep them relevant.,

Got a very old but good plasma Hitachi downstairs, SD picture looks AMAZING almost is if upscaled HD. HD looks decent as well, don't know how their new TVs shape up though. A lot has changed since 2008

This is made by Vestel - a budget TV manufacterer who also makes brands such as Finlux.

finluxdirect.com/3d-…10/
This is £499 and comes with 8 pairs of 3D glasses (i've seen this sub £400 before - the prices fluctuate often. The internal electronics/LCD-LED panel are going to be the same, even the specs down to the speaker output are identical.

Cold from me!

"Sorry but Hitachi make drills, their TV's are ****. Cold!!"

I bought one of the high end hitachi ultra-slim tv's a few years back (its pre-led , but thinner than most LED tv's) and its got an amazing picture, no lag and has been great.
Hitachi are one of the few companies that actually manufacture panels and to say they are a drill company is a bit short-sighted.

hitachi-pt.com/pro…tml

..as a caveat they do often use other companies for their cheap tv's which often get very average reviews, but don't write them off just because of this.

sorry, not able to reserve instores......................

Is a contrast ratio of 1500:1 acceptable?

I had a Hitachi CRT TV for many, many years and it gave excellent service, so I was happy to buy a Hitachi when I upgraded to a 42 inch LCD, L42VP01U. The first one was Dead on Arrival, and the power supply on the next one failed after 13 months and Hitachi would do nothing about repair under warranty. The power supply is made by Vestel, the Turkish company mentioned above, and the same power supply is used in many other televisions of various makes. The power supply board has now failed again, and I'm wondering whether to bother replacing it - it feels like throwing more good money after bad.I have tried one of the many repair kits available for this board (17PW16-2) but without success.

So, for poor customer service and for using poor components, I won't be buying a Hitachi next.

I too had a Hitachi LCD which started with an intermittent fault just after the warranty expired. Never again.

Ignore contrast ratios - they're made up. Amazing that number of people who look at them...

1500:1 is likely to actually be the static ratio, which does mean something, as opposed to the dynamic ratio of 1,000,000:1 or something stupid. 1500:1 is nothing to write home about though.

WRONG!

zorlu.com.tr/en/…asp

Apple were always a Desktop computer company who now make Mobile phone's etc.
So by your reckoning hoppo7 they won't be very good either.

Apple also outsource the components so Hitachi can't do this either?

I've had Hitachi TV's before and was really impressed with them.

Hoppo7 you also clearly know nothing about technology as most companies outsource components from other manufacturers nowadays.

Sony who are well known for TV's even outsourced screens from Sharp for the PSP a few years ago.

I think your the one who needs to keep your comments more relevant in future.

hoppo7

There is nothing wrong with product diversification and doesn't automatically make the rest of their product range ****. Yamaha for example started off making musical instruments - but their motorbikes AV / hifi systems aren't ****.

A lot of manufacterers 'borrow' components from other manufacterers, that doesn't make them poor quality (unless they use inferior components that is). I recently opened up a Sony Laptop and it had Samsung ram, a Seagate hard drive. Some chips labelled Toshiba and a screen made by LG. Yet it was all packaged up and sold as a Sony!

Hitachi once used to be great at AV products - i used to own some. Unfortunetly recently things have changed and these sets which are essentially Vestel re-brands ain't as good as they used to be. Shame - Hitachi once had a good balance between quality and price!

gazz1246, no amount of ridiculous posturing or randomly picking companies that outsource will make your posts intelligent or informative! You having an Hitachi TV just proves you know nothing about TV's. Why on earth would you buy a Hitachi when you can have a Panasonic, Sony or even Samsung? True you may have to have 40" or 37" instead of a 42" but you'd have a far superior TV.

Even BM12 supports the view that they are rubbish, even if it was by mistake

Hitachi once used to be great at AV products

Isn't that just like saying why would you buy that Kia 4x4 when you could have an Audi A1? Yeah sure it's not the size of car that you're after but the quality makes it so much better.

No, because one is a television and the other is a car.

3" on a diagonal will not take away the viewing pleasure at all, yet the picture quality will add to it massively Where as a 4x4 with a 7 year warranty & more seats than a small car, with associated higher driving position & perceived better value is something else entirely.

Hoppo7 that was meant to be there - certainly not by accident. As its true, Hitachi used to be great value for money once - but I'm talking about before Vestel took over - which I believe was recently.

Wow did I miss something? Is it international angry day today??

Seems cheap but think I will stick with my Samsung cheers.

That's why there was a wink. Your post started a bit like you were saying they were OK, then the last bit said they weren't. So agreed in the end with them being rubbish.

Hitachi were a major player in the tv market until they stopped manufacturing in Wales in the late 80's. They then made the finest tv's in the world. They used to compete with Sony but now reduced to a budget tv seller. Shame really!!!

I think I'll stick with my Sharp.

I don't currently have a Hitachi and i doubt if i did it would make me less intelligent Hoppo7.
Hoppo7 don't let those brains go to your head.

I think I'll stick with my Sharp

They are rubbish as well. Stupid is as stupid does!!

Keep talking. Someday you'll say something intelligent.

Which proves an old saying true "Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience"

Not going to let you drag me down, i'll leave on a high

Some cause happiness wherever they go, some whenever they go

Yeah I did (although more so saying they aren't as good as they used to be as opposed to being **** - which is what i'd associate brands like Bush or Alba with) because I was giving a balanced and justfied opinion on what they are used to be like (Hitachi manufactered and decent quality) and what they are now - (effectively just Vestel rebranded sets with the Hitachi brand/logo piggy backing it). I'm not slagging Hitachi off completely and saying that they are all ****, which is how you're post sounded. They still make some good non-drill based products. Their hard drives are one of many - pretty good from experience and very energy efficient!

Anyway, I've done my bit for the HUKD community. Looks like my job here is done. Over and out!
