I have been looking for a 50 inch LED TV for below £500, but noticed this deal today on the Argos website. Can't find any reviews, but would welcome any feedback / comments.

Or do I go for the following which is a LPlasma TV.

To be honest Hitachi is just a name that Argos bought and use for the tv's, they are typically the same as any of the supermarket brands in my opinion.

I have just ordered the JL deal you mention today johnlewis.com/lg-…530 I don't mind plasma and for the price and guarantee is a stonking deal, it will definitely not be there for long.

Good luck whatever way you go.

FWIW Plasma has better dynamics on screen, and gives a better overall picture than LED. I would always choose a Plasma over an LED unless the cost difference was substantial

This deal seems to be getting very hot, and LG beats Hitachi anyndaynof the week.

Original Poster

For an LED TV the Panasonic TX-L50B6B has a big depth of 89mm, compare to the above which has a depth of 42 mm.

motion rate 50hz......

Any recommendations for 50 inch slim led TV?

Thought Argos just owned Alba and Bush brands not Hitachi

50hz? I probably wouldn't bother I'd spend it on a better quality 40" TV

Hitachi no longer make tv's.

I may be wrong about Argos owning the brand name (not 100% sure) but they are the only UK retailer I know that sell new Hitachi tv's.

I would take a John Lewis deal any day, as you get a 5 year warranty on any TV. Worth its weight in gold, and JL service is superb.

I would look more to websites like HDTVtest, Cnet and Tech Radar when deciding on what to buy. They often do in depth reviews of hardware, pointing out the pros and cons.

I would say it is very easy to get pulled in to spending more than your budget, so stick to what you can afford rather than get pulled in to buying out of your price range for features that won't benefit you.

I have an older (2011 PZ550) LG 3D Plasma and I can’t really fault it, superb picture excellent 3D and a media player that can play anything. Excellent price at £449 shame its oos, it’s a far better buy than this.

From what I gather Argos use Hitachi’s name on their TV under licence, Hitachi haven’t made TV’s in house for ages. These are Vestel made, you can tell from the input panel in the pictures.

My parents bought the 40 odd inch version of this from Argos. Picture quality was utterly shocking. It got taken back. I believe the hitachi brand is licensed to Argos, think the tv was made in India if I remember correctly by some generic manufacturer. Would definitely use caution

We bought this tv over weekend ... beltin .. pictures excellent argos £369.99

do not bother with Hitachi, no surround sound with netflix or youtube, no digital optical port. i wish i had not bought it, go for a branded tv, toshiba and hitachi is owned by argos

Nothing wrong with Hitachi it says 50hz but I plug my xbox one in and it goes even higher excellent picture quality glad I brought it only issue I had was sound not that good but got an amp and speakers and bang problem solved awsome tv for the price and highly recomend
