No doubt a good price for a Full HD 1080p Freeview HD Smart LED TV, but Hitachi TVs are no longer made by Hitachi. They are re-badged 3rd party made devices.

They are an Argos own brand

Edge lit and only 2 hdmi inputs.
Not that great hence cheap price.

They are an Argos own brand

Which when I think about it and for most stuff that I have bought from Argos over the years which has been 'own brand' it's been complete and utter ****.

I agree, picture 'may' be poor, however Im sure a full HD LED Smart panasonic TV will be more than 'a bit more'

These are made in Turkey by the same people who make Finlux TV’s and supermarket TV’s such as Technika etc.

This is cheap-ish but I would save up my pennies and buy a branded TV as these are very poorly made and never last.

No they are separate subsidiaries. For example the hard-drive part was sold to Western Digital in 2012, but trade under the same name.

Where the Hard drives are good quality and I would not call them "no name brand"

Hitachi stopped making TVs last year. WHat you see in Argos is just a licensed Badging exercise.

I have had Hitachi TV since 2010 & it's value for money; my 50" LG from 2012 broke down with an inherent fault 4 months out of warranty; arguing with retailer to this day( pixmania); Argos I assume will offer better service?

Agreeing with others on this being a generic TV with a badge.
Swap the badge for one that says 'Digihome, Isis, Celcus, Techwood' or more truthfully Vestel and then decide if you still want it. Having a Hitachi sticker is almost as misleading as the Blaupunkt stuff in Sainsburys

If these were sub £300 I would consider it a fairly good deal, there have been a few Panasonic deals recently, 50inch for the same price as this but without smart features.

If anyone wants gauge the quality of Vestel made sets look at the reviews on Amazon for Finlux TV’s. Lots of tales of TV’s going bang, blowing up and then the hassle people go through trying to have them repaired under warranty.

This. Such a shame Panny are pulling out of the plasma market.

Tried this model on approval...forget it if you like fast action as the motion blur is not acceptable..(footy looks ok only when they all stand still!). Settled on a panasonic plasma for same cost albeit with no smart features... far better.

amazon.co.uk/gp/…nks

dosent have smart features but the majority of us all have tivo and sky etc and smart boxes are very cheap.

just my opinion. pannis can be had cheap if u shop about

Not sure who makes it would cause me the biggest problem but the 50HZ scan rate would. That is very poor for a TV of this size and spec.
Hot from me purely for the price for any TV of this size but I would steer clear if you are wanting decent picture quality.

Hitachis tvs are not made by Hitachi, aint that a good thing. Never experienced a good Hitachi tv when they did build them. But really that aside it seems a good price for a 50" led, there only really the Toshiba that curry's do that has a similar size/spec/price.

50hz motion capture may be ok on 26" tv................ but not on 50"
2 hdmi is not enough

Get a Panny 200Hz

It's a good price for the spec but like others have said it's Hitachi in name only, same as smaller Toshibas (less than 40"). Personally I would rather pay more for a brand as have 50/50 experience on un-branded tv's. I bought a Pentus from Currys a few years ago. It only lasted 2 years and went bang although a 32" Bush I bought for my son 6 years ago is still going strong.

Also some tv's other than top names cannot be controlled with a sky remote. Most annoying. I took a LOGIK back to Currys for that reason alone. Always best to check before you buy.

Thanks for that. You might have solved why my old "Hitachi" branded Freeview PVR has always been a waste of space. I think it's Vestel rebadged as Hitachi. Seriously though, thanks ;O)

200hz panny plazma, youd have to spend quite a bit to get that frame rate on an led!

Go for SAMSUNG LED.
At the moment SAMSUNG panels are top notch (LED series).

Sony and Panasonic they have some motion blur in common their new range of 2013 TVs.
Sony has to be the worse by far for motion blur.

For Plasma Panasonic.
