Yeah same for me, utter crap TVs.
Do not buy these.
Have this in spare room. Never had a problem with it. Tend to just use it for Netflix though when sport on other TV.

There's a reason why its in the spare room...
Hitachi toshiba japanese brands but bought by Turkish company vestel.
I think Argos actually own the licence for the Hitachi name for TVs now, but as others have said they are manufactured by Vestel or similar.

It's around £100 too much to be a deal, sorry OP.

No worries, never had Hitachi, could only go by the specs and on paper the specs for £399 are amazing lol so sorry for wasting everyone's time
From wiki

Hitachi - Vestel is rebranding some of its TV sets as Hitachi, in some countries. In Europe, Hitachi tv sets are manufactured by Vestel, while in other regions, they are manufactured by chinese or taiwanese oem manufacturers .

You are spot on there, argos own the license for hitachi although own bush and alba. They get a tv made for them by vestel and mod the software so on switch on it says the brand name. Essentially the same tv with a different case. These are not great but to be fair alot better than the low end 720p samsung sets.

For a few quid more the LG is a good option
I have an older one of these tv's in the bedroom. Due to a back problem, I spend a fair amount of time in the early evening watching this TV and it has been great for me. The smart side of it is a bit slow though.

I suspected. Whenever theres complaints against a "smart TV" its a Vestel.
And you always get opinion polarising. No in between. Its always "fantastic for the money" or utter c***
I'll not be biting. After Panasonic's flirtation with Vestel I put a line through their name for next front room TV (to be bought when front room is decorated) and left with LG Sony or Samsung

I'm just full of buyer's regret from the past. I had a wonderful Samsung 22" TV/monitor that was perfect for PC gaming. I accidentally smashed it when moving house. So I got a 22" "Toshiba" to replace it. Only it was absolutely awful for PC display and I thought I was getting a decent brand. In the end I got a budget AOC monitor as a replacement and my clear text came back! I therefore like to find bargains but just caught got out by the brand purchase of Toshiba. Would I have bought it if it said Vestel? I would have done more research for sure. I had a similarly poor Dixons own brand TV as a PC monitor before so probably would have avoided Vestel.
AO are doing a 55" Toshiba for £379.

Me too comparing this now to my sony bravia with hdr u totally notice the difference. Hitachi never used to be bad, prior to 20. 12 when Argos bought them out. Now Hitachi are just like other brands argos destroyed like Bush tvs. Want a good vewing expereice guys? go hdr you'll notice the difference

Maybe there's something wrong with your house's wiring.
Nope, well documented issue, cheap components

Its in my spare sitting room because I could not give a crap about playing games on it or listening to music. Just wanted a decent looking TV to sit in the corner and watch Netflix on. Picture and sound more than acceptable to me and for £340 (which is what I paid for it) I was more than happy.
Sony Bravia only when it comes to a main TV

Led back light went on mine, some serious qc issues. To be fair on the original post, all tvs are bad these days.
Refresh rate? After 40" with 120hz for xbox gaming...
Xbox does 60 max.
I have this model. So here’s some genuine observations on the specific not past experiences of other models.

Bought at Christmas, but cheaper than this. I use it in my games room
More than happy.

Its it’s not clunky. It’s not like toshiba/vessel of a few years ago. It’s not a premium tv and feels flimsy. But I don’t tend to drop it much so I’m not overly concerned. It looks great though. The bezel is slim and the depth is slim

Picture is great.
Freeview play works nicely
Netflix and other smart functions surprisingly snappy. I have other methods of watching content but the convenience of the tv having YouTube and Netflix and catch up tv is fab.

Great number of inputs.
Even a wireless receiver for a pc laptop built in

sound is adequate for my needs.

Looks fab fab with my Xbox one, switch, raspberry pi and SNES mini
