Nope, rebranded rubbish. Hitachi don't make cameras.

Hitachi are no longer an independent manufacturer, just a brand name...

Better cameras available for less money, no name optics guarantees poor results.

Sadly, Hitachi are no longer the superb quality japanese Manufacturers of the !960s and 70's.
i bought my 19" Colour TV in 1979 and its still going strong.

RRP £179.99! Another Argos fix to bring the masses running in - and they will.

This is a very mediocre camera reduced to no less than it's worth. Hard to recommend Hitachi.

Why is this hot?

Because lots of people buy junk if its a nice colour, cheap and says 10MP on the front?:whistling:

Because Mr Argos says it's reduced from loads to still quite a lot and sheep believe him. It's bad enough in the general population but shouldn't HUKD members be a bit more savvy? Apparently not.

Can anyone recommend something similar to this but with a rechargeable battery? Would go up to £100 for a good deal.

You shouldn't have any trouble achieving that under £100; some very decent little cameras around under a ton. I haven't got a specific deal to point you to but my personal preferences (from experience) would be for Panasonic (great lenses - probably the most important part), Casio (compact, easy to use) then most of the premium brands (Fuji, Canon, etc.). Steer well clear of 'deals' on secondary brands like this one or Polaroid, Praktica, Agfa, etc. Also avoid Sony and some Olympus as you'll be stuck with expensive MemoryStick or xD memory cards. Almost everyone else uses cheap and widely available SD/SDHC these days.

If you can get 4x or even 5x optical zoom that is helpful too and not out of the question at your price point. Forget digital zoom - it's of little value and you could do this on the computer afterwards anyway. Don't worry too much about the pixel count and certainly don't pay more to join the race: 7 or 8Mp is more than enough and higher numbers can actually lead to poorer shots.

We're approaching the time of year when new ranges are launched so you tend to get quite a few 'one off' deals on 2009 models in the usual high street suspects (I've done well at Comet and PCW in the past).

Added. Tesco were doing a great deal on the Panasonic FS4 last year but quickly sold out at £89.97. 8Mp and 4x optical zoom. I just found the same (refurb but 12 month guarantee) for £59 delivered on Tesco Outlet (via a well known auction site which can't be mentioned on here). If you can bag one of these I think you'll be very happy.

"The 'Refurbished' items are customer returns. A large proportion of these items have never been used. They might, for example, be unwanted gifts or products customers have simply changed their mind about, which have then been returned to us. They have been checked, inspected, repaired (if necessary), graded and reboxed complete with all accessories, however may have minor cosmetic marks that do not affect or hinder the functionailty in any way."

Cheers cock! Rep for you.

Tesco had a rechargeable Fuji in store reduced to around £89.97 yesterday. Fits your request. Model was J30 I think. I'd still go for that Panasonic though.
