Installation about 1.5 months away. Choose to pay more to get it done independently
If you have an existing wall mounted thermostat then fitting is easy DIY if you can wire a plug an follow a diagram.
Also be aware that not all boilers are compatible - ordered one of these via amazon last month with "professional" installation and British Gas engineer said (to my wife as I was at work) it was too complicated and didnt want to cause any damage to your heating system?!?!

Despite complaining I got no response from BG.............
Amazon just refund the money.....
Point is though why offer a product or service that doesnt fit the customer expectation/commitment.. im sure there will be something in the T&C's of purchase

It’s a shame they couldn’t fit. What boiler do you have? Is it a combi?

not necessarily, I’ve recently installed a single channel hive to our boiler and the stat was powered by batteries (with no actual feed from boiler) - so had to run 3 core and earth flex from boiler to get it all up and running. In most circumstances I agree, the feed should already be there.

i have been told that it is not compatible with worcester bosch. it would still work but it would not be energy efficient.

i am also guessing the british gas engineer would not want to spend hours wiring the hive up if the cables were not already there. that the installation cost included with this only covers simple install and will exclude anything more complicated that need a wire run.

What nonsense is this? Looks like BG employ imbeciles.

I installed it with a Worcester Bosch. Green star. Hive website shows incompatible models.
I got the BG offer with a Echo Dot and Professional Installation for £125 last month. I'm in a new build with a modern combi boiler and I'm glad it was done professionally!

Really great bit of kit though.

here is a list of worcester bosch models that will not work with hive

community.hivehome.com/s/a…ler

i was told by someone on another hive thread that worcester bosch boilers work better with honeywell so even the models that do work with hive, they do not work as efficiently as honeywell.
Wouldn't even bother the whole app thing is rubbish and barely works

Thanks. I stand corrected.

the guy seemed to know a lot about boilers and he said that boilers which are 'modulating' will not be energy efficient with hive. as hive can not modulate the boiler.

in plain english it means that a honeywell thermostat modulates the boiler, where it will turn the boiler flame lower when the desired temperature set on the thermostat has been reached rather than turn the boiler off and then on again when the room has gone cold. turning the boiler on and off constantly not only does the boiler no good but also uses more gas as the boiler will be starting from cold. modulating the boiler, where the boiler is just turned down a notch rather than off completely will be more energy efficient.

it seemed to make sense so the conclusion is that honeywell is best for worcester bosch boilers, and hive is ok only for the new models made from 2019 onwards.

Checked my boiler. It's a WB but not listed.

i have a worcester bosch CDi boiler, which was installed last year and I have a honeywell thermostat but it still seem to be turning the boiler on and off rather than modulate so i am not sure if all honeywell thermostats do modulate or whether all worcester-bosch boilers can modulate.

My current stat is plumb center own brand. That wouldn't be special.
