Just saw there was a Curry's deal for this, looks like Amazon are price matching. Personally prefer Amazon over Curry's as am sure lots of other people will too so this is for you.

I got this as a "freebie" (worth £250) from British Gas with my v expensive boiler. never thought I wanted it.. love it! now I want to control my whole life without moving my backside from my sofa
Co-incidental.... But a word of warning... These smart thermostats mean you're putting your trust in an organisation having an element of control over your heating... Case in point - overnight last night Hive pushed a firmware update automatically to my thermostat... Today - I have no heat nor hot water as the firmware update has borked the connection to my boiler... As the programmer at the boiler is now a hive unit, I have no control over my own boiler anymore. On one of the coldest nights recently, a sick wife and an 18 month old baby, I'm really starting to think these units aren't all they're cracked up to be. They may work 99% of the time, but it's during that 1% where you'll really question the value of these "smart" units

Heat added if you don't want the misfortune of having to deal with the cowboys at Currys (from personal experience and also check their Facebook page for other unfortunate customers).

Strange why the heating only is not an option to buy with installation
Is this the best price the Hive has ever been inc installation?

Not quite, I paid £130 from AO.com on black Friday. Still not installed though!
I paid £165 in February, so I'd say yes, best price installed and Amazon should offer a full refund if for any reason it can't be installed (ask them on Chat 1st)

Get it, you won't be dissapointed
Can this be used on a combi boiler? I don't need the control for hot water, but the 'heating only' model is more expensive
but amazon never give £299 giftcard for the glitches lol

Yes, whoever is installing would just ignore the hot water side of things. I bought the same heating + water Hive unit via AO.com (self install) and it works the same as a heating only would.
Top price incl install

Hive or nest...I can’t decide!?!
Paid £152 with installation from a random Amazon seller, Hive also recently sent me a free booster due to my wireless connection going haywire.
Bought one of these recently and fitted myself. Had it running for just over a week now and very impressed.

Is there a difference between the thermostat pictured in this thread and the one from here (apart from colour): hivehome.com/pro…dip UK & USA - Incentivized&source=awin&awc=6363_1513465508_05fb08f27f870afd0e143304b3c441ec ?

Sorry but I'm quite ignorant about these things - if I have a combi boiler and no water tank then I'm guessing that I don't need the hot water element of this? I have ordered from that link for my folks so worried I've not got the right one!!!

Thank you.
I have 6 thermostats. 1 each for 3 underfloor heating zones and 1 each for 3 radiator zones. Would I need 6 of these bad boys?

My water is controlled on the panel by the boiler.

When you buy the version with installation, all you get in the box is the controller and the engineer will install based on your boiler. IE if you have a combi boiler the engineer will install the heating only receiver.

Got mine installed in Feb this year with our combi boiler and working really well.

If you they can't install it for any reason then they give you a full refund, which is a good reason to go for the inc install version.

I think you'd need one of them, and then some of these: amazon.co.uk/Hiv…one

Haven't got any myself as only one heating zone in our house, but someone else can probably advise futher

Thanks for the info. I bought the hubless self installation version for £79.20.

I've just double checked with my dad and he has a combi boiler and no water tank, so I only need the heating only version I think?

Just checking you realise buying the kit without the hub (and assuming you don’t already have a Hive hub) you lose a lot of the features of Hive. Your essentially be getting a rf thermostat so all programming would be done on the thermostat and you’ll have no control via phone etc.

Might be a daft question , if I buy this item does it replace these 2? Reason I ask is there both a little temperamental

Yes thanks- already have a hub and bulbs so decided to buy the thermostat and receiver as it was only £80.

Thanks for the tip, had figured that out for myself this morning but through no help of any of the 3 people I spoke to at hive yesterday. Hopefully they fix it sooner rather than later
Might be a daft question and will be grateful if anyone could help:

When it states "Never heat an empty home again so you could save up to £130 a year on your heating bills", how does that actually work?

If there are several people living in the property, does one person control the boiler via mobile app or Hive would switch the boiler off when it detects no one at home?

Many thanks in advance

Yes. The old programmer is replaced with a much smaller unit that has 2 overide buttons for the water and heating.

The thermostat is replace with the smart thermostat. The Thermostat isn't wired, so can be placed anyway, but you will need to disable the wiring to the old thermostat.

In my case, I had to make a modification to the wiring to bypass the thermostat, as it was no longer required in the circuit.

You need to know what sort of system you have installed, Y Plan, S Plan or W plan. I found some great information here:

flameport.com/ele…cs4

Obviously, only self install if you know what you are doing. If in doubt, safer to pay someone to install for you.

I think it implies most people leave the programmer on, so if you are away for weekend or longer, the majority of people wouldn't remember to turn off the heating. When using the Hive system, it's easy to control when you are away.

You could have multiple people running the Hive app. You can also setup multiple people that have TXT message control so they can turn on/off the heating remotely as well.

I think Nest is a bit different and it uses people's location to turn the heating on/off. With Hive you have to do it manually.

Thank you
I think you can set hive up to turn off and on based on your location too. Not got around to setting it up myself though. Think its done in the app or you can use IFTTT to add more advanced location based automation

Thanks OP
I read from some previous posts people saying the smart thermostat could automatically detect and switch the heating off when nobody is at home, it's probably Nest...

Thanks. Looks like I need one for each heating zone. That's £500 plus the cost of the actual main hive. That's an expensive upgrade. I think I could start with just the radiator zones. That more bearable. Thanks for info.

Got mine this time last year and didn't get it install until early feb which was pretty annoying! Its Amazon so you can always order it and send it back if there's no installation slots for ages.
