Control your heating and hot water remotely with your phone, tablet or laptop from anywhere with Hive Active Heating™ by British Gas. Because you'll never need to heat an empty home again, Hive could save you up to £150 a year on your energy bills and is professionally installed by a British Gas engineer in around 90 minutes. It even works with your existing gas or LPG heating system (and certain electric boilers) and you won't need to change your energy supplier.
Control your heating with your phone, tablet or laptop
Turn your heating on or off, up or down from your chosen device from anywhere. Your heating & hot water can be controlled through the iOS or Android app on smartphones and tablets, or the online dashboard on a laptop or desktop computer.
Schedules and Temperature Presets
With Hive, you can choose to set your heating or hot water to come on to a schedule to help you save on your energy bills and ensure your house is warm whenever you come home. Schedules can be manually overwritten, for those days when you’re home or away for longer than expected. You can set up to six events a day. You can also quickly choose one of three favourite temperatures by using the Temperature Presets function, making it easy to warm your home.
Hot Water Boost
In addition to scheduling your hot water to come on at the right time, you can also use Hive to boost your hot water when you're in a hurry, turning it on for an hour to ensure you get a warm shower but don't end up leaving your hot water on all day.
Geolocation Alerts
Ever leave the house with the heating still on or come back to a cold home? With Geolocation alerts, Hive helps you only use your heating when you need it. Geolocation lets you set the distance away from home and the temperature at which you'd like to be notified at when you're either coming back or leaving. It'll then prompt you to remotely alter your settings if the temperature is too low or too high. Geolocation won't automatically change the temperature in your home, instead prompting you to make the change so you'll still have full control.
Automatic Frost Protection
Hive will automatically switch the heating on if the temperature inside your home drops below 7°C to help protect your pipes from freezing, so you don't need to worry if you're on holiday and there's a cold snap back home. You can also use the Hive app to check the weather at home and adjust the temperature accordingly.
Track your temperature history
Hive also keeps track of your heating history and saves it in graphs, so you can keep track of how you are using your heating. You can then edit your schedules accordingly to ensure you're being as efficient as possible with your heating.
PIN Lock
You can even set a 4-digit PIN to prevent the kids from changing the temperature when they're playing with your phone. If you don't have internet access but want to change the temperature at home, you can also text Hive to change the temperature.
In-home control
At home, you can use either the wireless thermostat on the wall or simply keep using your device to access it remotely. The wireless thermostat includes a backlight, so you can still see what you're doing if it's hidden in a cupboard and can be used to change the temperature or set schedules without the app.
Installation Requirements:
A working central heating system, Hive can be installed by British Gas or Scottish Gas engineers on gas or LPG systems (and certain Electric Boilers)
Hive Active Heating cannot currently be installed on multi-zonal systems, i.e. if you have one thermostat that controls the upstairs and one thermostat downstairs
An existing broadband connection with a spare Ethernet port connection
An extra power socket close to your broadband router
An Android or Apple smartphone if you want to use your mobile to control your heating via the Hive app
An up-to-date web browser to use the online dashboard (IE10+, Chrome, Safari or Firefox)
Please note: This product includes a telephone number and redeemable code that will allow you to arrange installation with a British Gas or Scottish Gas engineer who will bring the Hive Active Heating Kit with them.
What's Included:
When your engineer arrives to install Hive, they will bring:
Wireless Thermostat- this can placed almost anywhere in your home

Hub- This plugs into your broadband router to enable your thermostat to be controlled remotely.

Receiver- This small unit will be installed close to your boiler, and allows the thermostat to communicate with your boiler.

Price matching the argos deal I imagine. Check if stock there if you still want this.

Super price! You could get this then pay £99 to upgrade to the new V2 Hive, thus paying a grand total of £218 for what is normally £249!

Disgusting price for the technology, the hardware can be had for under £10 and the software is easy to write. I guess you are paying for the convenience of someone else doing the "hard work"
I'll give it heat as I can't find this particular solution cheaper elsewhere...

Brilliant. I shouldn't buy this, I should instead buy all the electronic components and solder them together perfectly, put them in a perfectly designed plastic case that I'll just be able to buy off the shelf, then I should learn programming and write my own software to the unit before finally developing a mobile app to effectively control the thing. Amazing.

Daft comment really, it costs samsung/apple/htc a lot less in parts than what they eventually sell phones for. Plus I wouldn't have said a distributed hosted web service and low level software with zigbee communication was "easy to write".

paid 199 a month ago so this is hot.

I don't agree with most of the benefits of hive, but under no circumstances could you manage to write/build anything close yourself for the money. The soldering and wiring alone would probably take you longer than the cost of hive at minimum wage, and you're looking at 100s of hours to write even the simplest software to control all these components, Zigbee is a relatively easy protocol to follow, but it would still take you many hours just to interface before desiging the GUI.

And FYI the only difference is the re-designed thermostat for changing the temperature, the functionality is exactly the same using the app/website
