Are you sure about this?

REALLY?!?!?!

From the Specs, it looks like it's got a Raspberry Pi under the hood!

Looks a good spec to me, but it costs a lot compared to other Web cams.

I'm guessing this may be best if you need it to work with a Hive system, but I've just bought a Web cam with the same spec (apart 25fps instead of 30fps) for £55 delivered (that was not the cheapest, but one with the best reviews).

This one also pans and tilts so you can look around:

Dericam 1080P Full HD WiFi IP Security Camera with a 1080p Video Stream at 25 fps, Good-looking Appearance Design, Pan/Tilt Control, 4x Digital Zoom, Night Vision and Two-Way Audio, P2 White

Granted it costs a fair bit but I guess for the Hive integration there would be a price to pay.

For around £50 you can build a motion recording / live streaming Pi camera but you need to be a bit tech-savvy.

this is really for people who have purchases the Hive system / an alternative to Nest

the camera should work flawlessly with the app. its probably the price some would pay for something that works without tinkering.

From what I can see, this records locally (i.e. on a disk in the camera), with no option to record remotely. This might only be an issue if you were planning on using this for security purposes. Having said that, I don't think Hive are pitching this as a Security camera, more as a 'check the kids are back from school' type thing.

i upgraded to the samsung smartthings, found hive to be limiting

There is no HIVE integration, its a separate app. You cant create recipes etc....

If its true that you can't use the camera with your hive set up e.g. as part of a recipe or view using the same app, coupled with the use of just an SD card offering no remote back-up then this is a waste of time, expensive and overall a poor offering. I had been waiting for this to be released as had many i suspect and what a disappointment devaluing what might have been a good system. Will be seeking a separate ip cam setup.

Google SNH-C6417BN, it's the same camera but lots cheaper!

Spoke in depth with Hive geeks last week. Basically treat this as a completely separate item, which means it connects separately to your router (not the Hive one) and you also require a separate App on your phone as well...

The only thing Hive about it is the badge and the price . Under the hood it's spec is poor. Way better in-door cams can be had for half the cost.

So much for Hive being an integrated solution for all devices, after just 6 devices on the Hive roster, the Hive developments teams have split off into doing their own solutions.

Seems to be the same price

Whilst I do own a pair of these, and am disappointed with the poor motion dectection, this is RRP, not a deal

Do you have any links to the cheaper and better cameras?
