So, bear with me on this:

Have seen people talk about Hive offers via British Gas rewards - however this wasn’t showing up when I log in.

I called them up to ask if they have any hive offers, and got passed from department to department. Eventually spoke to someone who could help, and who offered me their 50% off deal as follows:

Hive and hub.
Installation included.
Free Echo Dot.
£124 single charge or payment can be spread over 12 months at no extra cost.

I went for the latter and thought this was a cracking deal! Note: I did this over the phone and it may not be available online.

Ahh yes... That age old myth...

I switched my supplier to BG 3 months ago and they were in the top 3 cheapest fixed deals on comparison sites. I'll have £30 cashback paid later this month, and I've genuinely saved some money from some of the BG rewards; free Vue cinema ticket, 10 days free electricity, Sky store vouchers, discount on Hive products.

Other big six providers have had fairly cheap deals recently too; EDF and SSE for example. Run the figures and comparisons for yourself and see what works, but blindly stating the big six are "extortionate" isn't especially truthful or accurate.

I agree, you forgot to mention that for the first year you get Homecare breakdown free too, I also went for them as they were so close to being the cheapest, easiest way to check is to know your approximite usage and calculte it for the year with a few tarrifs and standing charges that you get on these comparison sites and you can work it out for yourself, I did that and BG was close to the best at the time.

Nope, cheapest option for us for combined gas and electric. That was across 3 comparison sites, but not including smaller less well known suppliers.

Heat added.

That is a great deal if you can pay it over 12 months, will look at this, I already have a hub, so it might be cheaper., thanks
Great deal if only it was available last week
Would anyone recommend this over the nest when the price difference is minimal?
Great deal

We have basic boiler cover. This qualifies you for the rewards program

Yes - but could just be for Homecare. It doesn't have to be as an energy supplier.

Yes

This is a really good deal, I’d have tried but not a BG customer. Heat added anyway
Did they give you any indication as to when they could install it? I would've thought there's a long delay given that breakdowns would be a priority at the moment?
Looks like a good deal but 50% saving?

When was this £249?

£160 here a few weeks ago - hotukdeals.com/dea…812

I got transferred a few times and nobody could help initially.

The person that did help said I could call back on 0333 200 8899 and ask to speak to her: Lee Byrne in Customer Services.

So feel free to try that.
This offer was pulled last week, which was about a month early, due to high demand. OP was probably just lucky to get it

On the phone to them now. 20-30 min wait lol.

It's a generic number, not direct to Lee. Thanks anyway though.

Did they tell you when they could come out to install?

4th Jan unfortunately, but I can wait for that price.
Already had the Echo Dot voucher come through though.
For those with zoned heating, you can buy this, then the extra thermostats without the hub for £99 each extra zone, and BG will fit at the same time. I contacted them directly to find this out, so good info hopefully for someone. Total cost for my house with twin heating zones and hot water: £223.50.

That’s strange, I didn’t even have to ask about monthly payments. Did you at least get the same annual price?

No, I just said that I was interested in the hive active heating and then asked if it is possible to pay over 12 months, I already have the rewards voucher so I know the price, but don't want to fork that all out in one go.

I would personally go for this. The main difference with hive and nest I found when looking to buy one was nest Thermostat needed to be hard wired in whereas the hive you can have in any room you are in. The nest is a learning Thermostat but to be honest I don't need that level of complexity to my heating solution. What was important to me was that the hive was easier to use for my family and boosting hot water or heating was as easy as pushing a button. I also think the hive looks nicer but that's a personal taste but the build quality is also great and it was easy to self install. Also works well with the app also with Alexa and IFTTT so it's smart enough for my needs. My only slight grumble was it needed a wired hub using ethernet connection, but once tucked behind my router my ocd settled down a tad👌🏽

Managed to get through and they said unless you've got the Rewards code they can't process it. As someone mentioned above, the discount codes stopped being available a week or so ago.

OP was fortunate to get it.

I did £300 a year more for me based on 12kw gas and 4kw elec, I think I will save my £300 and spend it else where, most of the deals are available from other sources but if it works for you

Its a wireless thermostat, doubt they will do the pipe work to separate it of into two zones, so basically he will srcew it to the wall LOL
Had mine fitted yesterday by British gas, works great. Was worried with the boiler being on 3rd floor and router and thermostat on ground floor there would be issues but everything connected first time. Engineer even left me a booster for free Incase of any problems in the future. I Installed the hive camera at same time which looks and works great as well.
