If you buy this used, can you control someone else's heating?
It costs only £59 to get on the Hive Active Heating system as tried and tested by me.

FREE Echo Dot 3rd gen as well code sent via email.

Here is how it works:

1. Obtain a £40 Off Introductory Code via anyone with Hive - you will need to enter your email address to receive a unique code, e.g. YLHM8J6MTGM. [Below is my referral link if you want to use it]

Link: mention-me.com/m/o…7cd

2. Go to following link to order - Hive Active Heating without Hive Hub:

Link: hivehome.com/pro…599

3. Select: No Installation

4. Indicate: If you have a Separate Hot Water Tank (or not)

5. Select: No Thanks for wanting to add additional Heating Zones (£99 optional extra)

6. Go to Basket and enter Promotional Code (or name of referrer) to get the following items for £59:

> Hive Thermostat

> Hive Receiver

> Echo Dot 3rd generation (need to order via Amazon voucher)

Of course, the above is a self-install option as is this £130.50 Amazon offer. The Amazon Offer doesn't come with an Echo Dot (3rd generation) while my option doesn't come with a Hive Hub. The Hive Active Heating can be fully operational Without the Hive Hub and Echo allowing you to control your heating and hot water from the Receiver or thermostat. The thermostat is not wired but can be used remotely from anywhere in your premises where there is WIFI signal. Again, you can use the remote thermostat to schedule your heating and water as you desire or select boost on demand.

The benefit of the Hive Hub together with Echo Dot is that you can take the control of your heating and hot water to another level. You can control everything via the Hive App be it from your bed room or from anywhere in the world plus you can control your heating and water via voice command to Alexa (Echo Dot).

So while you have the Echo Dot with my suggested pack, the cheapest way to obtain a Hive Hub is to order a Hive Starter Kit (Hive Hub plus 2 x Hive E27 Light bulbs) via Amazon Warehouse - currently available for under £42 for the set. The bulbs alone have an RRP of £19 each. These Hive Starter Packs tend to be unopened customer returns (when customer accidentally orders Starter Kit with E27 bulbs (screw type) instead of E22 bulbs (bayonet type). If we assume the bulbs are worth £10 each, the Hive Hub will effectively cost a mere £22. (Note, Amazon Warehouse prices fluctuate. I pad just under £30 for what is currently showing just under £42.)

Link: amazon.co.uk/Hiv…8-5

Final Cost for full Self Install Hive Active System with Hub plus 2 E27 Bulbs: £59 + £42 = £101

Final (effective) Cost for full Self Install Hive Active System with Hub: £59 + £22 = £81

The Hive Hub plus 2 Hive E22 Light Bulbs set are also available for an additional £11 for the set:

great thermostat! I had it when it first came out with the version 1 design - this design much better but to honest don't use it that much as I use the Hive app more

100% agree, but don't upgrade anything, all the new kit is total rubbish, the 360 wireless hub does not pick up any noises its meant to and goes offline all the time meaning remote heating is useless, the camera is junk, the voice feature is a whisper and can't be heard. The door sensors just don't work they show the door opening and closing but show open all day when closed and don't even get me started on the radiator valves...... total and utter junk that take 20 minutes to open.
Seriously, stick with the basic kit (Heating, lights, plugs) and it's 100% good, but never be tempted to upgrade or add anything new (Hub360, Camera, TRV's), it's all utter junk.

Good advice - I have 13 radiator valves (TRVs) they're good actually although was a messed up release by Hive - software wasn't properly ready/ nor tested. I also have the motion detector - that works effectively too. Yep avoid the 360 hub.

I use 2 door sensors and both work fine and have done for over a year. If your hub is going offline, try moving it. It can be trial and error sometimes. I found that having it too close to my router was bad for it.

Nope. I’ve read my comments several times and NO WHERE does it say he’s lying or even allude to him doing so. You may need to go back and read it again, then probably come back here and apologise to me for making out that I said that!

I also had the same problem.
I've had mine about 18 months and paid 120 for the lot with installation as part of the BG rewards deal.
Never had a problem other than it went offline once which was resolved very quickly on live chat.
I use the app mostly and sometimes alexa.

Works great for managing the temperature when the kids get in from school and blast the heating to a million degrees, I can turn it down while still at work!

The "heating only" one is designed for combi boilers. I think I read somewhere about people getting the "heating and hot water" version running on a combi but you would have to look into that e.g. below

Yes it will work just the same, we have it on our combi boiler. When being installed the hot water side is just not wired in.

It runs on batteries and has only two wires from the combi boiler.
I already have a Google speaker so could control with that.

i got one 3 months ago and 5 trv's, its been the biggest pain in the a@@@ since, the wife hates it, i hate dealing with them and it never works when you want it too, then you reset it all and have to reprogram the entire schedule you took an hour to sort out again, thats on top of being on the phone for an hour to support, buy a nest
I have hive heating -> works perfectly.
Motion sensor-> works perfectly.
Plug -> works perfectly (using for printer).
3 light bulbs -> all perfect.
Using hive products for years. Batteries last very long.

As always they work for some people, never seen a product that does not work for anyone, the help desk said they must be too far apart and when I said they were ont 1mm they said they must be too close. So I made the the prescribed 2mm and guess what still shows opening and closing as it should but shows open when closed.

As I said hive is great been using it since remote heating which mush have been about 10 years ago, I do agree the bulbs and plug also work great and I don't use the motion sensor.

Try the 360hub, the camera and the TRV's then see how you feel, if you think i'm a hater you are wrong I love hive but the newest products are not ready for market, they are rushed out and are junk. If you don't believe me just see the TRV reviews, even hive team will tell you 15 minutes for a TRV to open is normal in their FAQ:
community.hivehome.com/s/a…ing

Quote from instruction above:
"Once calibrated
• Even when your Hive Radiator Valve is fully calibrated, it can take 5-15 minutes to fully open after getting a command from the app"

5-15 minutes, bit of a window! reality however is 20 minutes and if you are only turning on one radiator it can overheat in that 20 minutes the boiler is on and no radiators are open.

Old kit: Hive heating, Hive bulbs, Hive plugs = all fantastic
New kit: Hive camera, Hive 360hub, hive TRV's = junk
