God are we getting nest/hive fanboys now??
I've had my glorified on/off switch (hive) for a few years now, wouldn't be without it. I work irregular shifts, so turn the heating on when I leave work. Plus I remotely adjust the thermostat without the wife realising.

Unless you invest a little more in their TRV's. British Gas are currently offering 50% off hive products until Jan 2020.

Being able to control each radiator is huge without having to go between rooms.

There is also all the other bits you can add to the hive eco system, door and window sensors, motions sensors, lights. Where nest at? I did actually look at nest and while the learning side of it is cool, the lack of things you can add to it is a deal breaker for me. Im at the point where I want one or two systems max. I don't want, Hue, Nest, Xiaomi and the mess of other cheap smart tech.

Your comment just explains how little you know about the two and more importantly the open standards to modulate the flow and temp of your boiler

Nest isn't that great, a Honeywell T6 is better.

Thermostat Wars!
I think I'm going to wait....
Had my Hive fitted last week (part of the BG customer £125 offer with a free Echo Dot).
Whilst it technically is a 'glorified on and off switch', its a very good one. The amount of programming options and flexibility with geolocation etc works really well.
Also, my old thermostat was broken, and having this fitted would have been barely any more in cost than having an engineer come out to repair/replace the old broken thermostat.

Overall I'm very happy with it. As a system, it works great, is reasonably priced and recommended. Fitting took half an hour and was completed when I wanted it to be.

Return it? Unless it's been fitted, then if so phone them up and have a chat.
Be nice to the staff and explain the £50 difference and see what they can do.
Amazon customer services are beyond the best!
I have a 20 odd year old condensing boiler with hot water tank. This okay for me? Or should I go for the option without the hot water?

Thanks in advance!
I've contemplated getting this. However I have a 2 year old Baxi Duotec with a wireless thermostat so the control dial on the boiler is just a transmitter to the thermostat. A Salem RT510BC.

Hive need to bring out a similar design so the transmitter goes into the same place rather than having a separate box on the wall which makes this thing almost redundant for me as I'm not prepared to chase walls for an install.

Should be an easy DIY install?
Is this ok for combi boiler with no water tank? Can't find heating only to match this deal.

That's a shame. Thought they may at least gift you a £10 voucher or something.
Still, not quite worth the hassle for £50 - thought not to be sniffed at, but is your time and effort to return and re-order then re-book worth less than £50? Nope!

Look at Mr Moneybags over here. £50 is a lot of money to some people, including myself. I would personally return and reorder. It's not like Amazon don't provide prepaid return labels to make it easier or anything.
Interested but the read up on the room TRVs is not very great at the moment which makes me wonder why the big price slashes

Two questions , so with this , does the app work from anywhere .... eg ... i'm in Spain for a few weeks , can i just turn heating on and off whenever i hear the uk temperature is low ?

Also ..... for security when leaving the house empty when abroad , , can you then also get one of their clever light bulbs so again i can remotely turn on and off the main lamp in the house ? Fitted at same time ? , work off same app ?

Yes, it also has a 'holiday setting' so you can have a preset temperature for your time away.
Some home insurances specify your home should be a minimum temperature otherwise it may void your cover!

Yes bulbs all work off the same app, you can also pair them all together with 'hive actions'.
I.e walk in the door, trigger a motion sensor that puts the heating on and boils the kettle off your smart plug.

Clever stuff. I love hive, much prefer it to the alternatives.

Just reorder it, return the new one as the old one. You'll then have £50 and they get back a new, unopened one.

Stupid really, but for £50 I would.
As others have stated, £125 fitted with free echo dot is the best deal I have found, of which I ordered it yesterday. This is offered as part of being a BG customer

Nest is really quite a poor product. No zoning, doesn’t work with HomeKit. Poor multi user support.

Mine is getting binned for Honeywell Evo home system.
Does anyone have a BG code they could PM me if they are not using it for the half price deal please? Thanks
The BG code is no longer working
I remember good old days when i got my hive for £60 without the fancy battery hungry reciever but the basic white thingy, was the toolstation deal, also grabbed old stock from nearby toolstation for the other house earlier in the summer £60 again
Gas boiler...

2 zones, 2 thermostats

What's best to get
