They can activate your lights so when you come home at night it turns your hallway light on for a specified amount of time. It's lazy but it's very convenient when you get home late and your lights come on. I don't use the sensors for heating because as you say you can just see what doors/windows are open.

These are the old style Hive Window/Door Sensors. Hive recently released a new design/version.

I'm not sure if the new sensors have longer battery life and a wider range for activation? or if it's just simply aesthetic redesign.

When the sensors were originally released, you would receive text notifications when they were activated. Now, push notifications are sent only.

You now have to join "Hive Live" (£4.99 a month) if you wish to receive SMS notifications. Without these sensors having IFTTT functionality (Apparently "Coming soon" or Apple HomeKit compatibility (Apparently coming in 2017) I personally won't be purchasing any more of these.

I have something similar but that's for my alarm. Surely if you want the lights on you need more switches and equipment then this one sensor.

Hive is just one contender for proliferating devices to control your home. I guess it a natter of taste and technology appetite.

Could someone enlighten me, I have a Hive system set up. I recently bought the hive bulb. Can I buy this attach this to my door so when I open my front door the hive light will automatically turn on.

Is that possible or do I need a subscription for hive live for that possibility?

If your "Hive system set up" includes a Hive Hub then yes, you can create a 'recipe' in the Hive app or my.hivehome.com dashboard to turn on your Hive lightbulb (or Hive Active Plug) when the Hive sensor detects motion.

You do not need a Hive Live subscription for this functionality. You will be able to receive push notifications only. If you require SMS text!notifications, email notifications and extra warranty etc, then a Hive Live subscription (£4.99 a month) is required.

No problems with mine

Was going to buy one of these last week to add to my Hive heating hub.
Anyone with any questions Hive have an excellent customer team who answered my questions quickly by email.
I already have a £6 bulb with an inbuilt motion sensor which turns on when someone enters the porch and was wanting the multicoloured Hive bulb for the living room.Turns out you can control these bulbs with either the app or you can put it into manual mode with the light switch to use with your normal light switch.
I'll be adding this sensor to turn the multicoloured Hive bulb on automatically when I come home
Thanks for posting and don't forget to use one of the cashback sites to get it even cheaper

Is it just me that thinks these "smart" systems are over priced & under delivering ?

I'll just wait a while for competition to hot up in the sector.

I believe a web site called ifthisthenthat may help you.

I made the mistake of buying a hive bulb from the Amazon deal a few days ago, only when I started to try and set it up did I find out that it needs a hive hub to work. Make sure that you have one before purchasing this deal.

Download the hive app and build a recipe. It should be straight forward! My lights come on if I open my door between the hours of 6 and 6.

I have them on my front and back doors, useful to:

-Know when people arrive or leave your house.
-Monitor time, like our cleaner.
-Useful security records in the event of burglary.
-Easy to fit with sticky pads.

Ordered, thanks!

Yes. They have the worst app and the worst development team I've ever seen.
They only know how to make their app worse.
It now has adverts and in app purchases with their new "updated" app. I really hate the development team with a passion.

Ordered.. Shared house. This should be interesting!
