HMRC Tax/National Insurance/Pension Access

Found 11th FebMade hot 11th Feb
Stumbled across this whilst trying to change the address which HMRC have registered for me.
I didn't know it existed so thought it might be helpful to others too...

You need to first setup a Governemt Gateway account then you'll be able to login to view things like:
- Your Tax Contributions
- Your Tax Code
- Your NI Contributions
- Your Pension Forecast
- Tax Credits etc...
- Update your personal details (address etc...)

Probably not useful for everyone but I found it pretty handy.

yep good to stick this up again as a reminder - thanks, a lot of people won't know about it

about time somebody stuck up the free money on the marriage allowance transfer as that helps a lot of people & usually gets a few hundred heat recs - don't forget you can go back 2 years now so you might get back nearly £450

It's useful to anyone. Thanks

Thanks for this. Only problem was I created a new government gateway id without realising. It wasn't clear on the linked page. Thought I was signing in.

Where do you view all this if you are to clicking the link? For example, I have an HMRC account so using that link does not help and clicking GOV.UK just shows me so many options.

if you've registered previously and have a password and user id try gateway.gov.uk

You need to set up a Personal Tax Account (PTA). You can use your existing government gateway user ID and password to set up the PTA. Visit HMRC website and search for Personal Tax Account.

had so much of a nightmare with the gateway idea not recognising password etc gave up in the end..

Thanks for reminder about this. Already have the government gateway user ID and been meaning to get round to checking my pension info.

Great link. Just checked mine and for the past 4 years, 3 are incomplete!! Strange that, I'm a disabled person with qualifying benefits to have my NI credited. No indication of how to correct this, all links say that contributions are automatically credited!! At a total loss now what to do. Wish I'd not looked

not sure how it's a deal it's just some information isnt it.

Good spot OP, thanks. Might come in handy in the future. But for the mo, all I get, after the long winded set up is

Sorry we’re experiencing technical difficulties

Did anyone else find it very strange that, on an official government website, they have an option for something (Tax Credits) which, when you select it, you can't access it online, only on the phone? What's the point of adding it if you can't do anything about it? Odd.

I will say this. The government websites for things like this, paying tax online and car tax etc are absolute quality. Quick, simple hassle free. I know it's not nice to have to pony up money but if you have to at least it's easy enough to do. (i sound like a right w**ker dont i :'( )

Really? I tried it once, there was a link to something that isn't accessible online and, when I tried to use it for the personal tax, it just locked up and gave me, "Sorry we’re experiencing technical difficulties". Not exactly a quality experience so far.

Its to discourage fraud apparently, but maybe also to discourage genuine claims. They will keep you on hold for over half an hour when you call just to request an application form.

Very true, you should have posted it, why it would be your first in nine and a half years of membership!

I would want to scare myself with what my pension is worth.

Most of us wouldn't live long enough to retire

I just love to check tax.

Very useful thankyou, I had no idea it existed and it was something on my 'to do' list

Thanks for the post, but will give it a miss due to the restrictive password policy for registrations. No special characters, max length of 12. Awful.

I paid into a work-related (University) pension scheme for nearly 8 years and on the site, it says that the private pension is only worth £6.62 a week.

I already knew about this, but it's a useful reminder and a good idea for people that don't want to search back through over five months of posts in case some one else has done it. Something like this can be posted 2-3 times a year.

Same for me too..

I signed up for this a few months ago. But now when i enter my log in and password its coming up invalid with no way of resetting. I am 100% sure that the log in details are correct
