HMV NEW Trade in Deal! Read inside!

Found 2nd Mar 2012
Hi there!
HMV in Lancaster are running a new scheme called 'Swap Shop'!
It doesn't sound a good deal on paper -
A £1 trade in for everything.
However here's the catch :
It's a £1 for each CD and DVD you trade in..
I've not tried it myself yet, but the guy assured me it's a huge back catalogue!
Seems a good deal for people wanting to get rid of their old CD's and DVD's!
Thanks,
Jack!

Heads up: trade in rate now reduced to a rubbish 50p per item as of 28th March.

The guy just said its £1 for everything, didn't mention only £1 off each item..
Also,
Only store credit!

If its the same as Fopp who are also owned by HMV you only get £1 off … If its the same as Fopp who are also owned by HMV you only get £1 off each cd or dvd you buy. In other words you can't trade in 10 and get a free cd.

That's not quite right. According to the Fopp Facebook page:

It's simple... Bring in your unwanted CDs and DVD's to Fopp (no CD … It's simple... Bring in your unwanted CDs and DVD's to Fopp (no CD singles or promos)... You get £1 per item that is then swapped for stock in the store. For example... Bring in 10 unwanted items swap it for two £5 CDs.

The catch is that it's at the discretion of the store what they will accept - i.e. they won't take everything, and if it's some rubbish compilation album from 2002 they can say no.

Ah, fair enough. Must have read it wrong in store

Also, you have to "swap" there and then in Fopp.
They don't allow you keep credit on a Gift Card.

Fopp sell the stuff that's been swapped for £2.

That's a good thing. You get money off something you don't want, they make profit and keep the stores open, and other people get to pick up CDs for £2.

Thanks..

They're not doing this in Glasgow.

Just did this in Fopp, and that's not right - gave me a giftcard as 'change'.

The reason I ended up in Fopp is because after calling my local HMV this morning to check that branch was doing the offer and them saying "Yes, it's £1 per item you bring in." I got there with a massive bag of stuff only to be told it's actually now only 50p per item and whoever I spoke to earlier got it wrong. Great. Apparently this new rate is "on trial" to see how much stuff they still get in.

RIP OFF HMV....WILL CLOSE DOWN SOON!!!!
