Good price for the 5L Keg, I normally pick up a bottle or two from time to time.
I saw this in Derby Asda. I don't reckon I've seen £10 for over a year, unless they were found reduced in store. I decided to buy 2 for a good Saturday night.

Product Information
Traditionally craft brewed with Chocolate & Crystal malts & a blend of Styrian, Goldings & Fuggles hops. A full-bodied ruby beer that delivers a delicious chocolate toffee malt flavour, balanced with a moderate bitterness & an overall fruity, mischievous character
Preparation and Usage
The ideal serving temperature of your Hobgoblin is between 8°C & 12°C, the temperature of the perfect pub cellar.

How to serve your Hobgoblin
Best consumed within 3 days of opening.

Step 1: Turn the tap on the side of the cask to the right by a quarter turn and pull it out from the cask until it stops.
Step 2: With a glass under the tap press the red button to dispense your Hobgoblin.
Step 3: When beer flow slows lift the tab located on the top of the cask and quarter turn left or right to vent the cask.
Then resume pouring.
Step 4: After pouring return top vent to the closed position - quarter turn back. Remember to reopen before next pour.

Did you buy one? What was the best before, just I wouldn't mind getting my step dad one for Christmas, this is the earliest I've bought stuff because I'm sick of rushing around
This isn't the proper dark stuff that I think was about 5.2%.

Checked and mine states 31-01-2020,
Great price, great for novelty value. Voted hot. But I’ve had a couple of these kegs ( admittedly not hobgoblin, both lager) and I’ve just had pints & pints of gassy head! So been a bit disappointed.
Anyone know if hobgoblin kegs give gassy head? Or can you get normal pints and head with these?

Ideal for Christmas then, I'd have gotten him a few mixed bottles but he likes this so might as well get the keg

I have had a few different ones to try, the previous ware Tesco a couple of weeks back for one of these and a Ghost ship. Drank them over a couple of weeks ends and after the first half pint being a bit headie( calmed down whilst poring a second) were perfect.
Same price per litre, as buying cans from Aldi.
The kegs need to be used up within a couple of days of opening. Not a problem if sharing, or going all out by yourself, otherwise the content loses a lot of gas.
Voted hot, but still confuses me why the bottles are 5.2% and this and the cans are 4.5%

I remember reading at the time that they wanted to create a more sessionable drink for lager drinkers, so kept the bottles at 5.2 and made cans 4.5
Decent price but not a fan of this ale myself
Lots of froth, then a dribble, then plenty left in the keg. 2 day life after opening. Poor concept.
Cool deal

Corrected for you

The taste changed also along with the alcohol reduction, they're like different beers to me,

The bottles from Aldi come in even cheaper then the Cans. The blonde is a nice hoppy affair as well

Bottles are usually around £1.25.
Cans usually £3.99 for 4.
Both contain 500ml, so I'm at a loss to understand your maths.

As for the blonde, if you mean the Gold, I'm not a fan. The IPA is good though.
The price per unit x the strength of alcohol (ABV) x the volume in litres.

the only true way to measure alcohol not this ridiculous price per litre which means nothing.

Personally have always enjoyed a bit of head.
Supposed to leave the keg rest in one place for a day to settle before pouring

I always thought it was a government guideline thing, a few dropped their content under 5% in certain containers, even stella. Some cider went down from 8+ % too.

There's 2 types I get 4 bottles ever week from aldi there's a dark and a light one the dark the best and its 5.2
Alcohol contents is less in the kegs order the glass bottle but it is a good price for the keg if your looking to het high slowly .
Great deal, but im suprised my mother in law let them use her picture on the front?!?!
Always thought it tasted a bit odd out of these kegs or cans, maybe the metallic taste. Love the stuff from the bottle though, and it's only £1.25-1.50 per 500 ml bottle
NIce beer, gret deal, hot.

I think you're thinking of the Hobgoblin IPA, which is a fairly recent addition.

The standard Hobgoblin drink is 5.2% only in bottles. In cans, kegs, and even on tap in the pubs that serve it, it's 4.5% and tastes rather different, which is bizarre.
Bring it on...

It really does taste like a different beer doesn't it!

I don't really care about alcohol percentage personally, but it impacts the taste and becomes unrecognisable.

It's still ok to drink, but woulld sooner pay £15 a keg for the 5.2 stuff

Chadd, also online so must be national

cool +1
I've had these for parties and such before, and found them to be fine wrt pouring/froth etc. IIRC the first pour is froth, and after that it's fine, until it's all gone. Just follow the instructions about releasing pressure etc (Don't remember the exact details).

Shame these don't last a bit longer. I don't really drink these days, but like the occasional beer with dinner. I'd like to have it just there to be available for weeks...but apparently not...
Too bad BBQ season is over.
