Why they so popular compare to asics or new balance it’s that brand new hype shoes
I started running this year, i bought the asics gel nimbus 24s, unfortunately asics are small fitting, even though i ordered a half size bigger. They gave me shin splints, I switched to hoka clifton 8 wide, which have a more supportive middle, and noticed remarkable reduction in pain. i def recommend

I read the five isn't as good as the four, anyone used them? I'm looking for a good road to trail shoe or swim run do it all shoe.
I have both and the 5 is a much better shoe imo. Done about 200 miles in mine, upper still perfect, tread worn slightly as expected. Wore them for the Coniston Marathon and no issues at all, no blisters etc. Grip not great in thick mud, but otherwise great trail running shoes. No issues on road either if you need to do a bit of road running.

Can anyone advise how waterproof these are? I.e. are they similar breathable uppers to road hoka? Need something for wet trails so been holding out for the gtx version to come on offer but doesn't seem to be.
I would imagine not waterproof at all! Keller Sports had pegasus trail gtx for about £80 yesterday. I have hoka torrent - again not remotely waterproof

    these or Novablast 3?
The Speedgoats are trail specific and the Vibram grip is considered exceptional for trail running, whilst they are fine on road they are not made for it. The Novablast are road specific and are super bouncy cushioned daily trainer - unless you are looking the Novablast TR that have a slightly improved grip but not a patch on the Speedgoats.

I have some different Hokas and they are as comfy as hell. They are supposed to be good if you have an injury, which I do, but unfortunately for me they didn't help. None of them look nice, but if you're getting them covered in mud, who cares?

Hoka seem narrow fit for me…. otherwise good deal
Other people find them narrow as well. That will be why Hoka offer them in a wide fitting as well. runnersneed.com/p/h…tml

    Reminder: these are trail shoes.
I sometimes wonder why I bought trail shoes... but then when I went out in the fields today in my runningxpert.com/en/…iew then I remembered why they are so useful (grippy) in bad conditions. (edited)
