HRS is very well known brand in Germany so no worries. But this deal is expired now..

stayed there before and the bed is very comfortable

This place is around the corner from where I live. It's a fantastic location with bermondsey street, the southbank and borough mkt to name a few local places to go to without leaving se1. But if you want to, it only takes 15 mins to get into town or to the east end. Bargain and even on a Sunday there will be loads going on.

I've just realised is this HRS a proper company? Doesn't seem to be much background information about them

just out of interest...why did you feel threatened by Doncaster train station ?

@Mykey..
Unfortunately, customer service costs real money to implement. Ryanair have shaved all the meat off the bone - and that is why (for me at least) they are always significantly cheaper than the competition.
As I say, if you read their baggage rules, you will not get stung. It's as simple as that.
I have actually had shocking experience in the past with Ryanair (they sent my bike to Ireland, rather than to Scotland...and then told me I'd have to pay the courier charges to get it back. This delayed a charity bike ride for 3 days (I had to sleep in my tent in a forest outside Inverness airport!).
I got the bike back eventually...but told myself never to flu budget again unless I only have hand luggage. It's when you stick stuff in the hold that it all goes to pot with Ryanair.

zerospin

It's very easy to avoid problems with Ryanair -- stick to their rules! … It's very easy to avoid problems with Ryanair -- stick to their rules! When you get to the airport, make sure your hand luggage fits in the metal frames that are near to the check in desk. I managed to carry 9.8 kg's of hand luggage by using webbing straps from an army bag to tie all my various bits of hand luggage together. I then stuck all of those in a bin bag - which I then selotaped. One piece of hand luggage...simple.Also, why didn't your friends just pay for their bags to go in the hold??! It would have cost them much less than the £300 they eventually paid! Failing to prepare...preparing to fail!

Rules rules rules - All I want to do is fly on holiday - it's meant to be a fun experience.

Also you are wrong - baggage could be well over £300 at the airport:

Each bag is either £105 or £140 AT THE AIRPORT

SteveM79

So your friend broke the hand baggage restrictions on either weight or … So your friend broke the hand baggage restrictions on either weight or amount of baggage, and couldn't board without paying extra, then blames the airline. Why do people always have to blame someone else, never their own fault. Don't get me wrong some airlines have rules but aren't that strict on them, whereas I know from my own experience ryanair is strict, but they are only enforcing rules that they make clear on their website, so when you fall foul of them, the blame stops at the individual.

Mr Indoctrinated - It's called customer service - something sadly RYANSCARE know nothing of. Would honestly rather hitchike with Hannibal Lecter

Zerospin - I guess its all about personal perspective and experience, living in a city you become aware of the places to go and where to avoid you blend in, being a tourist you tend to stand out, especially british and americans.

airbnb.co.uk - great resource

Great price. Crap airline. I flew to NYC with friends and had seats at the back of the plane. Was told not to talk by cabin crew as one of their colleagues was on the row of seats behind ours (concealed by a curtain) catching up on her sleep!

Cracking price, just came back .. be prepared for circling before landing in a holding pattern, super long taxi to terminal, long queue to immigration as they have queues from two directions into the hall that are supposed to filter together, took me two hours in a queue before reaching front. USA today carried a headline while I was there cuts in immigration staff was leading to people spending up to an hour on planes before joining queues. Was it worth it heck yes.... visit Empire State at night miss the queues, pay for the Statue Harbour cruise, Staten Island ferry doesn't get close enough to the Statue of Liberty, metro is the way to travel...8)

Some Airlines have their European hub outside the UK hence flights could be indirect, eg fly to Amsterdam then transatlantic, for example.

They drive like nutters, the roads are awful and the hire company we ended up with was nothing short of a scam. They tried to say that a couple of very minor scuffs were made by us (which they most certainly were not, we used the car to go to the hotel and then back to airport on leaving only as was cheaper then transfers). The hire company took the full £1000 from our account... WARNING! there is nothing you or your bank can do to stop this, I cancelled my card thinking that would stop it but 2 weeks later their bank took the money direct from my account. I spent ages fighting it but once you agree to hire the car and sign to say you agree to the £1000 excess there is nothing you can do. Feel free to message me for any more info on what happened but I advise paying the excess waiver AND taking pictures of the car before driving away.

Best use one of the international hire companies, rather than the local independents. If the hire looks extra cheap, then there's a reason for this.
Even then, when I look at the damage sheet when picking up cars nowadays, it amazing what they mark as damage. Miniscule stone chips, light scuff marks that t-cut would remove in a few seconds, seem to fair game nowadays.
Its also amazing that the full excess can be taken for minor damage - but if you sign the contract then there is nothing you can do about it.
Never ever use the hire company excess waiver. Not only will it be expensive, but you will still not not be covered for glass, tyres or roof damage. Instead take out a policy with one of the 3rd party excess insurance companies - and make sure you read their t&cs.

I agree, I forgot there was only one of you going!Let us know how it … I agree, I forgot there was only one of you going!Let us know how it went. New York is truly an amazing city.I fly in six weeks and I can't wait.

Hi everyone, i've been back home exactly one week. I had an amazing time, just as everyone said i would. I had lots of people telling me how brave i was before i went & also while i was over there, but i loved every minute of being in New York on my own.

The Jane hotel is just outstanding for singles. Super clean, friendly staff & in a great location in the Meatpacking district/West village. 8 mins walk from the subway @ 8th ave/14th street & same distance to the start of the Highline for a lovely 1.2 mile walk uptown, with views of the Hudson & Empire State. At £66 per night i thought it was great value for a comfortable bed, A/C, fan, iphone dock/Radio, free wifi, free bike hire & a 1 litre bottle of Jane Hotel water per day.

I purchased a 1 week Metro card($30/£20) & a New York Explorer Pass(3 Attractions) for $79.99/£53 from Smart Destinations. As 1 of my attractions i paid $14/£9 to upgrade a hop on hop off single bus tour to the All around town bus tour. For this i got to go to the Bronx, Harlem, Brooklyn, Brooklyn by night, Downtown, Midtown, Uptown, a 90 Min cruise taking in the Statue of Liberty & other sights, free entrance to the Museum of New York & an Eat & Play card with discounts on shopping & eating act. All this was worth over $250. For my other 2 attractions i chose T.O.T.R & Empire State worth $50. The hop on hop off bus was invaluable & i used it to the max for 4 days even though it was only valid for 48hrs as the tour guide said they didn't mind Brilliant service!

I loved central park, 5th avenue(Tiffany for 40th Birthday present), T.O.T.R(wouldn't recommend Empire State), 230 5th for an amazing champagne brunch with fantastic views, Staten Island ferry & the meatpacking district for trendy shops & nightlife.

The flight with Kuwait was the best long haul flight i've experienced. I was firstly upgraded & had loads of leg room & room around me. My very tasty vegetarian/gluten free meal was served under 1 hr into the flight along with free soft drinks & coffee to end. Once the trays were cleared the lights were dimmed & i settled down with my pillow & blanket(provided) to watch a movie on my free headset. I then slept for 4 hours & awoke when the lights were turned up for my cooked breakfast, orange juice & coffee, which was again really good. We were handed a small immigration form to fill in & show. I was on the Airtrain to Jamaica($5/£3) within 40 mins of landing. The transfer from Air train to subway was an easy elevator ride down to the subway platform & then when reaching 8th/14th another elevator took me up to street level, so no stairs with my suitcase at all & only $2.50/£1.50

After 7 days of between 12 & 14 hours sightseeing per day my feet were red raw & i was in pain. Having substantially more luggage coming back home after discovering Century 21 you'll forgive me for caving 5 hours before my flight was die to take off & booking a Shuttle with Supershuttle.net for $20.69 including fees & tax. Shuttle arrived 1 hour after i booked it as promised & i was the 2nd to last pick up & nabbed the comfy & spacious front seat next to my driver. I think we arrived to JFK in just over an hour, however i was in a world of my own feeling sad & taking in every last view of New York that i could so i'm not too sure on the timings.

Lastly my Kuwait flight back had been canceled & they had transferred me onto an AA flight. I took the Airtrain from T4 to T8 & used one of the self check in machines & handed my very heavy case to a AA employee to be put onto the plane. No mention of weight so i made a very quick exit to a coffee shop to grab a quick coffee before clearing security & boarding my flight as it was to fly 70 mins earlier than mine so was already boarding! This being my first flight with AA, i was not impressed. Not as comfy, no free headset(my 2 pin Kuwait set wouldn't fit into the 1 pin AA) nasty food, non smiley hostesses with their beaks up in the air, seatbelt sign lit for nearly the whole journey(regardless of turbulence), toilet dirty, in fact the only good thing was the selection of free drinks served with the meals. Oh & a squashed croissant & a plastic tub of orange juice does not a breakfast make!!

Back home & already planning return with my 2 older kids next year! Will fly Kuwait

Have a great time t0mm!

What's the weather like at this time of year is there a stormy season?

We went for the two weeks before Thanksgiving, on Oahu it was hot and sunny every day until 5pm, when without fail there was a rain shower for about an hour. On the other islands it was mixed weather (still very hot/humid) - but as there was a bit of a breeze it kept the vog (volcanic fog) away. Air-con in the car/room is essential

I think technically it's still hurricane season until November, but seem to remember them being rare...

It's obvious why the price doesn't include luggage. If you aren't traveling solo then you may not need X times the luggage. For a family of 4 then 2 cases may be enough, for a couple then 1 could be enough. Even with luggage this is a great deal.

Avoid Megabus if you can is my advice. It's the preserve of students, backpackers and those with no money.

We went to amsterdam from london and it was horrific. First You have to fight your way onto the bus as the seats are not reserved; the queues at victoria coach station are huge and the whole experience just generally sucks- its a dirty scummy place you really dont ever want to have to visit. The wifi also was unusuable and the leg room is no good of you're over six foot like me, spent the next day recovering in the hotel.

The prices that are pictured in comment one have now changed to £5 and £18. Still worth it for a fiver though!

Believe it or not....this is a good deal. Flights are regularly £3-4 cheaper/more expensive depending on who you book - the likelyhood is it's the same flight.

Anyone who doesn't like some of the American Airlines, wants to save some money or doesn't live in London?

Good deal IMO if dates aren't restrictive.

If you fly BA regularly then maybe you fly business class or are Silver or Gold Avios loyalty card holder, in which case you can choose seating for free any time after you book (although long haul exit seats are still charged extra for reserving early). If you are Avios Bronze you can reserve seats free of charge from 7 days before the flight. Everyone else has to wait til they check-in, which if you do that online is available 24 hours before the flight. I find it amazing that until a year or so ago flyers who didn't have loyalty status couldn't pre-reserve any seat until check-in. Now BA have added the option (which you don't have to use if you don't want to) to pay £10 and reserve a seat anytime after booking they get bad press and moaned at. Personally I only use this option when travelling in a party to make sure we all get decent seats together. Free drinks and food on BA are a definite bonus - but be careful if you end up on another airline as a code share then that airline might not be so generous (E.g. Iberia).

Not that this is the deciding factor for many but I like the fact BA … Not that this is the deciding factor for many but I like the fact BA offer a complimentary service on alcohol and snacks etc on their transatlantic flights. For many who dont like flying, this could be pretty handy! I think that they could be the last airline to do this?

not just transatlantic, i believe its all flights

Atleast we got free food and drink to ibiza. Only a short flight so only managed to fit two drinks in though

heat added, shame we can't go

You can always do a day trip from Penn Station to the Garden State Mall … You can always do a day trip from Penn Station to the Garden State Mall (in Jersey) for lower tax shopping, or go a bit upstate to Woodbury Common Outlets...

I grew up about 2 miles from the GS plaza(NOT Paramus!) and I hate that mall with the strength of 10000 suns. I hate the Rt17/Rt4 area with the strength of 20000 suns.
I am a big fan of Delaware where everything is taxfree.

Flew with them last month (Manchester to NYC) and paid a similar price for the flights then added a hotel on, came to about £550 for 5 days. It didnt cost anything to choose the seats (and booked them a few weeks ahead of time) through AA and baggage allowance was all included. Flight was great, nothing fancy but got about 3 free drinks throughout the flight, a meal and a snack

These flights are still available, however the price has gone up to around £680 for the dates 9th Dec - 2nd Jan. You have to specify dates on lastminute.com as they don't show up on the flexible search facility. Rachel

It's a good deal even if you take the tax difference into account.

No, not necessarily, even without accounting for paying for flights and the hassle.

Extremely cheap for flights to NZ at Xmas, in spite of having to go through Barcelona.

Saw Turkish to KUL in time but couldn't use as can't confirm dates at present, passed it onto nephew who grabbed it for his honeymoon with AA flights up to Langkawi, lucky sod (_;) Still as you say QR for £500 not bad. Enjoy.

This place and some of the smaller islands on my radar now anyway.

Same here - combine some offers to Asia and then a LCC flight and you get to small islands - on some Polish sites i spotted offers to Guam, Palu etc

Just a shame i missed out on the Business class to KUL for 600 euros yesterday... Already booked with QR to KUL for £500 in April.. so i am happy
