Have been looking for a quality cheap CCTV kit to monitor my home for the last few weeks and have just ordered the below from Tesco Direct at a really low price of £99.99

With the kit we get a digital video recorder (DVR), 1TB hard drive (loads of room for recording) and 2 x 720P Cameras (indoor or outdoor - Weatherproof with night vision !!!)

I think this is a lot of kit for the money and a great price to protect my home !!

Installation is straight forward and all cables are included so my hubby will putting this up when it lands with us

I can log into the system via my smartphone also to see what's going on

Any guides for installation?

I have been looking for a POE system for a industrial use and have been worried but the use of the word HD as it generally does not mean much (some HD systems have a terrible resolution) - also it will be interesting to see what it's night vision is actually like (our one is to poor to read number plates)!
don't forget to point it towards next doors windows as this never causes anger! (obviously in reality the neighbours are going to hate you as they will suspect you are spying on them even if it was pointing into the sky)
when you fit it tell us how you get on with the quality

very few cameras will be able to pick up a number plate.

i have this set up. very good quality day and night. night vision will not pick up a reg as it reflects too much light. easy set up with a single cat5 cable.

Was actually going to buy it this week. Reviews are very good. What about face recognition? Picture quality looks very good but how detailed is it?

These won't do 720p - composite video isn't physically capable of doing it. Even a cheap IP based setup will be miles better than this.

appreciate your comments but we are on a budget and this seems like a good deal

AHD (Analogue High definition) will do 720p, I gather you can also get AHD1080p systems, although they're completely incompatible with 720p versions.

I would expect that even a budget 720p IP camera would still be better, but I've never tried AHD or any of the competing analogue hd sysytems to compare.

Seems like a decent package. Was looking at hikvision cameras but the cost of just one camera is nearly the same as this package.

I had no idea you could buy AHD CCTV kits, I doubt this is one though.

HOW DOES POE AFFECT YOUR BROADBAND SPEEDS if done over network? Sorry to shout caps lock was on and texting via phone

It's in the right price range for AHD, they're a lot cheaper than IP systems, and you could probably find cheaper on ebay.

It might be this system, which the pdf indicates is ahd:- cpc.farnell.com/hom…003

I was actually looking at CCTV cameras the other month. The issue is a lot of them claim they are HD, when in reality most BNC cables are not capable of anything more than 700TVL, and at the maximum 900TVL which is 720p (but you'd be lucky to get that)

What you want is a Networked Video Recorder and various IP cameras (POE ones), for one you only need an ethernet to power the camera and to carry data but it would be of significant better quality and cheaper in the long run.

Well so long as the Camera wasn't sending data out to the internet it shouldn't affect it too much if at all, it depends what bottlenecks you have in your network, mine is a gigabit network so i'd be nowhere approaching the bottleneck. To be honest HD video is what? 5Mbps, so I doubt it would even be an issue.

I'd be interested to see what the image (photo or video) quality is like from this system. Nice and cheap so don't have to be amazing.

I cannot find any reviews for the "HomeGuard Smart HD" online anywhere! Lots of places selling it for much higher prices though.

Is no reviews a bad thing ?
