Is this not what buildings and contents insurance is for?

Don’t see the point of this to be honest’ it’s a quid a month for a reason and that reason is the chances of you making a valid claim for this is almost zero.

Easy money for HomeServe though - playing on the what if scenario.

Crafty

Hot. Wonder if they have any offers on full cover?

Not for me... had homeserve cheap plumbing and heating type cover once. Called them out took about 8 hours, came at night. They claimed it was fixed but the problem remained. Save your £1

Went for the plumbing insurance and the first time i called them to tighten a tap, their 'engineer' broke up. Left me without any tap for over a month. Very rude and incompetent customer service. Stay away its a Trap.

Took out the 50p a month plumbing cover. They came out and fixed 3 different issues in 1 visit. Brilliant! Bargain of a lifetime!

I've had good and bad experiences of this before. But overall they got it sorted in the end and it was well worth it.

Had this offer for 3 yrs now. Called out abt 8 times for leaking taps toilets and sockets. Always came nxt day and fixed prob. Even changed the taps for free on bathroom basin once. Bargain.

Fixed my broken sewer pipe a couple of years ago.
Came out 3 times. First couple of times just jetted it down and left. i kicked up a stink (pun intended) 3rd time and they dropped a camera down the pipe and found a collapsed sewer pipe and fixed it.
Took 3 guys, and 2 vans 6 hours to do it.
Well worth the 2 quid a month i paid.

Pay them £4 now but i would never be without.

Electrical cover may not be as useful to me because i can do electrics myself.

I thought that was needed when the dodgy electrics caused a fire because you never had electric breakdown cover

I had the 6 quid for plumbing deal and called them out three times- seemed pretty good to me for smaller jobs I didn’t want to deal with.

Homeserve, best known for the largest ever retail fine for mis-selling to retail customers in Britain, for "serious, systemic and long-running failings, extending across many key aspects of its business".

The Financial Conduct Authority said it considered the failings to be particularly serious given that a significant proportion of HomeServe customers were of retirement age and therefore more vulnerable.

If you wish to support a company that treats its customers with contempt, particularly the needy and vulnerable, and expect to be able to make a claim when you need to good luck!

Had them out this morning funnily enough. Always fix the problems and replace necessary parts. Excellent customer service. Can't fault them. I have the plumbing side though not electrics. Same price

Would someone be able to elaborate on a scenario when this cover would come in useful?

I've just moved into a house where the main lights flicker, 2 don't work at all and 2 light bulbs (1 mains, 1 lamp) have broken on me in the past 4 weeks. Could just be a coincidence, but I think I need to get the mains electrics checked out. Would this insurance be useful in such a situation? Would I need to wait until something serious happened, or is the aforementioned enough cause to call them to come and sort it?

BEWARE!

The price may be different for existing customers. The price will increase at renewal. Currently customers in their second year are paying £8.56 a month, £102.72 for the year for this policy, provided they have made no claims.

Not even worth a pound in my opinion. When the offer runs out they do everything in their power to get their money back so they try and sign you up anyway they can. They passed me to 3 other people before I managed to get it cancelled.

Currently have boiler service plan with Homeserve. Persisted to send us half a dozen letters during summer to arrange a service. 1st booking no show. Admin error apparently. 2nd booking no show. Technical issue with booking system apparently. Awaiting visit from our 3rd booking. Let’s see... won’t be renewing cover with them. Annoyed at 2 wasted days off work waiting for engineer. Cold as a frozen stopcock.
