HomeServe Cover 8 with boiler service - £9.50 pm (Term = £114) (Plus £100 Quidco Cashback)

Was shopping around for a good deal on my boiler cover and came across this deal via Quidco. Going via their website, gets you £100 cashback. I went for the £9.50 per month with £50 excess, which would still work out cheaper than the likes of British Gas Homecare if you had to get a callout.

Worth it for the boiler service alone really!

How is homeserve? Anyone with them and can comment and what does this include in terms of cover?

Topcashback is offering 105 cashback

Also the cashback States cover 8 not cover 8 with boiler service

Home serve are useless, more stress than anything, go with either British Gas or Domestic and general, that's from my experience with them.

Rubbish. I had no heating or hot water on coldest day of the winter and took them 5 days to come out, even though I have a very poorly baby. Just pay extra and go with British Gas! They went to my friends about 12 hours after they made a call!!!

It tracked fine with boiler service and I got the email a few hours after taking out the cover.

HomeServe seem to get a bad rep but they only rate 0.1 behind British Gas on Trustpilot. 7.6 for HomeServe and 7.7 for British Gas.

I had a similar experience I'm afraid.
Quick to come out initially - but took an age to approve the claim and then a while to repair. Moved into my parents for a week.

I got this deal last may £9.50 a month and the £100 came in September. I've had to call them out twice so far and both times I've been reasonably happy. The trouble is they use 3rd party repair firms who just want to get the job done as cheaply as possible, mine admitted they use reconditioned parts and even parts from ebay, so for that reason I won't be renewing as I'd rather not have fake parts in my boiler (let's face it everything on ebay is fake these days). Using the cheap/ebay/recon parts meant they had to come back out 3 times but it was fixed in the end, compared to the £250+ a year British Gas wanted me to renew I still see it as reasonable value. As it took them 5 days to get one of the parts they gave me money to buy heaters, I think it was about £30.

I used to have British Gas and they do provide a better service for sure, it is simply a case of you get what you pay for, but remember, 5+ years of British Gas cover and you are well on your way to buying a new boiler. Put this into comparison with car insurance and you realise how overpriced these schemes really are.

Just something additional to note if you have an unvented heating cylinder, they will not cover it.

I got this deal last year and all tracked and was happy at the beginning . I never used them for a repair but I tried to book for a service and they let me down at least twice from memory and the boiler never got serviced. They do use third party companies to do the work and I found my allocated company to be unreliable. I am not renewing . but I was told by a member of staff that they have resolved the issues I have but I didn't want to risk it again. I'm going with npower fingers crossed..quid Co do a deal but works out more expensive .

As I have some 'Home Emergency' cover from my home insurance, which covers up to £500 of repairs including boiler and heating system, I took out this same homeserve policy merely to get the required boiler service, that Home Emergency cover regularly requires. The additional boiler etc cover that Homeserve provided in this deal was a bonus overlap in the cover I needed. Quidco payed out £85 too. I have not had to call out Homeserve for anything though, and do feel quite sure the service may not live up to that of British Gas, but that is reflected in the cost of cover as far as I was concerned

I agree with miss poppy same experience happened with me leave them alone or you will regret it

this deals too good to be true, after tcb of £105, you're only paying £9 for the whole year?!?

Just find a good heating engineer from recommendation.

Don't understand people who pay for this crap.

I have one that services my boiler and fire and does a gas safety certificate in my rental property for £75.

He'll also not rip me off should any work or parts be required.

The gas fire failed the safety test with the first plumber saying I needed a £90 valve. My recommend engineer simply loosened and nipped tight the valve. That was 5 years ago and still no gap escape detected from it.

I wish they made these conditions clearer

Yup, 'this cannot be used in conjunction with any additional offer from homecare'
The service is an additional free offer

The problem is getting a reputable gas safe plumber. I had the same with a plumber, he failed gas safety on a gas fire and said but I have a fire I will fit you for a massive amount of money. Well I I called another plumber he replaced a part for a small fee and it passed. But that plumber is a lazy sod getting him out is a mission so I can't use him all the time. Then he wonders why he is always broke

Completely agree, I got a recommended one out and he wanted to do £300 of work that wasn't necessary, I ended up fixing the issue myself. As for not paying for this crap my boiler needed a new PCB which retails at £277 - so I've had this replaced for £34 and two other £50+ parts replaced under the same callout.

Watch out my cash back was decline by Home Serve via Quidco... I did complain but not luck yet

thanks for the headsup, great deal, I have just signed up

in all the years of being a landlord. I have never come across an honest tradesman that does not over charge!

I have plenty of examples where the cashback simply doesn't appear after months chasing Quidco

So I'll pass

That's why I took it last summer. And yes it does work. I needed a boiler service as the terms of my home insurance 'home emergency' option suggests I need to show evidence the boiler is regularly serviced. It was going to cost me about £90 for an annual boiler service anyway. The cash back paid for this. I shouldn't need to call on a homeserve engineer out for fault anyway as the home insurance 'home emergency' cover would be first port of call now.

So I think in these sorts of circumstances this deal could be a savvy option

You are lucky. Most trades people do scam the rest of us

I probably pay over the odds with British Gas cover but the quality of trades person over those when I had Homeserve many moons ago is the main reason I've stayed with British Gas.

Also make sure if taking a policy with Homeserve that they will fully repair and reinstate the faulty problem. In some cases they may just cover the "emergency" repair....for example I had a faulty fuse box and the tradesman merely removed offending fuse and taped that section over, stating emergency repair had been done. Still had to pay for proper repair to reinstate that section of fuse box, which had I been with BG would of been done on the call out.

Cash back will not track, crafty buggers have seperated the quidco homeserve 8 from the other policy which has a boiler service. Will get at most 30£ cash back

as mentioned before, cashback tracked at £100 when I set up policy. if its a gas central heating policy, it would be tracking at £30.

Mine tracked at £80, still a good deal!

I've been chasing my cash back for a year, nothing. Quidco will also not allow me to review HOMEserve on their site.

Bad from both parties.
