bought ht17 Pro for £58 on a recent deal, which is a good buy. but I would not gamble 200 on a Chinese origin phone from gearbest for obvious reasons.

Is this like a camp satnav?

It seems a good deal but it's a lot to risk on a phone like this, I'm kind of ok with Chinese off-brand handsets for under £100 but nearly £200 is a step too far for me. I got the HT20 with the IP67 certification and dual-SIM, that was the ideal one for my spare phone.

Just cancelled my order, still 'processing' after 6 weeks

I bought a Homtom HT3 Pro a few weeks ago and it had horrendous issues with weak antennas and GPS that was out by several hundred metres.
There's no way I'd spend this much on a Homtom

I've had cubot, xiomi and oneplus phones. They have all been good phones that have lasted.

These phones all pack a punch comparative to their price tag, that's why I've most likely been lured In.

I'm pretty tempted for this phone , though gearbest gives me a few worries due to stories I've read from members on HotUKDeals.

In the past I've used banggood and gearbest and both seller's provided straight forward experiences. I don't recall paying import taxes either.

I've never had to return a phone so can't comment on the issues you may find your self dealing with if it does go Pete tong. I suppose that's the gamble you take isn't it.

With these Chinese phones, I find it hard to settle on which one to purchase. Each has pros and cons and each is quickly superseded by a newer model.

I think the question is, if if breaks /ruins after 3 months, are you OK at losing X amount of £'s.

Which of the upcoming Chinese phones are worth looking out for?

su6 from voda for £99 is a safer option me thinks.

I'm not sure what is coming out as the manufacturers don't publicise until a bit closer to release date but the good Chinese phones that are out NOW are:
Xiaomi MI5
Oneplus 3
Huawei P9
HTC 10

Note; these are flagship phones so they're spec will match or exceed the Samsung Galaxy S7 but their price tag is significantly lower

Agreed and I've bought from LightInTheBox before and had no issues at all.

Wouldn't spend this much on any Chinese manufacturer for now.

Even Huawei whilst great generally, aren't reliable enough to use as a daily driver.

Ive been looking at the Vodafone Platinum 7. There was a deal posted on here a few weeks ago.

Wouldn't buy it from Gearbest or recommend Gearbest to anyone. Placed my order for three devices, paid and waited for delivery. They cancelled the order and still haven't even sent me an email saying why or anything. I found out when I got an email from PayPal saying I had received a refund. Absolutely disgraceful.

The only reason Ive not voted hot or cold is the price… you can get cheaper from other Chinese sellers.
I pre ordered mine more than a month ago for £153 and just received it yesterday. I believe there is only limited availability at the moment.
Absolutely amazing phone.. the specs really show up in its performance. Iris recognition is amazing!
Only minor issue (I don’t mind) is that the back camera is 16mp, not 21mp

So far, I have ordered more than 10 phones/tablets from China.
1 tablet had to be returned for repairs.. took 3 months but its been fine.
1 phone had to be returned and still came back faulty .. still undecided whether to return again for an agreed refund or sell off cheap on ebay.
1 got lost in the post but I got the money back from paypal very quickly

I chose the dealers with better (none are perfect) customer feedback have had ok dealings with cs when things go wrong.
The other times, the devices are great.
At around 4x cheaper than similarly specced branded phones. It’s a risk worth taking and so far I have not really been out of pocket even considering the return postage for faulty goods.

Hi,
I've got an HT10 too, seems pretty decent but there are a few things that are bugging me - do you have these issues?
1) Whatsapp crashes every time I try to send a photo
2) eBay app won't work at all
3) When 'auto' is selected for flash in camera app, the camera will flash every time irrespective of ambient lighting (i.e. outside in the sun, still flashes)

Other than that I really like the phone so hoping for a quick software update to resolve these issues.

I'm on build number 6.0-V01-20160914

We have the same build. I have not had such problems with Whatsapp.Just tested it now.
I've not installed ebay app yet.
I have also not tested the "A" option or the flash. I always set the flash to X because its not powerful enough for long range shots and overexposes close ups... its a problem with all my previous phones.

The only minor issue I have noticed is, from the title screen, when you press the right button to bring up the setup and you click on setup, you just get the auto rotate settings.. nothing else.

Ok, weird about Whatsapp as I've uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times and still have the same issue. Will have a play about with it and see if I'm being stupid.

Not sure what you mean about pressing the right button to bring up the setup, but seeing as we're probably 100% of the HT10 UK community I'm happy to try to test this if you can give me a step by step guide

Sorry I meant the LEFT button. You know.. the three “soft” (non physical) buttons at the bottom of the phone? The middle one is the “home” button. From the home screen, click the left button and you should have an option for SETTINGS on your screen. What do you see when you select SETTINGS?

Have you formatted your SD card when inserting in the new phone?

Ah, when I press that on the homescreen I just get the 'wallpapers and widgets' option that you would get from just long-pressing the screen anyway...

Got to love the consistency of these import phones X)
