great price, but im always wary of these cheap media tek cpu's and their mali gpu's

It is a hot deal. It is a pity though that most of these type of devices run such old software.

I'd rather have the 5" Moto G.

only if was 4g capable as well

had 2 huaweis. not the best.

you get a lot for your money for this phone. unfortunately "no planned upgrade to lollipop" according to trusted reviews website means that you'd be a fool to choose this over the moto g simply because the big performance improvements of android 5.x (change to using ART runtime most notably) will help to get the best experience.

The Moto G and fragmentation of the market has really killed budget smartphone modding.

A couple of years ago people would have been all over this with custom ROMs etc... but now for £100 you can get a phone that's great out of the box. Even the Moto E is under £50 now.

Overall a good thing for Android but pot luck whether the device you buy will have any aftermarket backup if you want root or the manufacturer ROM has bugs/limitations.

Yes, a dual 3G sim (not one 3g and one GSM), quad core, 2GB RAM, removable battery, uSD card etc for < £110, leave it please.

Nevermind that all the info you need to change ROM (EMUI, MiUI etc) root and others are easily available (forum.xda-developers.com/sho…php?t=2773098).

Humm, well the review I read said that yes it does. BUT, I've just checked the full spec on the Xiaomi site and it states that it only supports the 1800/2100 & 2600 bands. Which means you'll get 4g on all the networks here apart from O2, as they only use the 800 band.

If you're on O2, you should give it a miss. If you're on any of the others it should be OK...

I'd rather have a blowy off Philomena Cunk, we can't always have what we want.

Is there a reason why a lot of these types of devices and tablets seem to run 4.2? I mean, I wonder why they don't bother to upgrade it to at least Kit Kat for the performance boost alone. I imagine they're all very close to stock too, so wouldn't be a big drain on resources to update.

It really is a shame, as something like the Zopo C2 seems like a great phone but the software will always put me off.

Frequencies used by networks in UK

http://www.4g.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/4g-FREQUENCIES.jpg

Xiaomi does support 2600 Mhz which vodafone also supports. Only O2 will not work, as three would work at 1800 Mhz

Sorry I got my information from here I could be wrong. Also not all the frequency could be in use at the moment but according to the wiki list it's listed Vodafone with only 800mhz
en.m.wikipedia.org/wik…rks

Upon further reading it looks like it only works in densely populated area and the reach of 4g is limited same problem as one plus

It's the fault of MediaTek (the chipset manufacturer) for not providing updated firmware and drivers that work properly with 4.4 KitKat (or even 4.3 JB). Most phones running these slightly older MediaTek chipsets will never receive a full android update.

paid about 120 last year when it was released from to2c.com delivered, its a good phone for the money,

I don't understand why Asian companies insist of putting in dual sim card. Surely the main market for that is drug dealers?

utter rubbish. what is the fascination with everyone on this site about the moto g???

my honor six works on all UK 4g networks. this should be the same. got mibe from amazon too

Why would you buy this? Android 4.2 is years old and several versions behind. The Mediatek CPU is cheap but known to be problematic, and makes custom ROMs very difficult. Plus Huawei does not really have a great reputation in terms of build quality, reliability or service.

Compare this to the Moto G2, and I think you have a clear winner. But it is not Huawei.

Last time I checked, no network in the UK supported TDD-LTE, has this changed, as this Xiaomi device only supports TDD-LTE in the 2600mhz frequency

In my opinion people make to much of having the latest version of Android. Skinned versions of Android look different than stock anyways so telling what version of Android you're on is not even obvious unless you actually check. Apps running on Jellybean, KitKat or Lollipop all look the same so what real difference does it make. I have Lollipop on my Nexus 4 and don't think much of it at all to be honest.

Hot deal by the way.

what do you know about the move to android runtime from dalvic JIT compiler whereby applications are compiled in advance of runtime to run natively on the device significantly improving load times and memory management? look it up and then tell me it's rubbish.
This phone is clearly the only competition for the moto g at this price point. The moto g represents a landmark shift in the value of smartphones at this lower price point. Ergo, a comparison of the 2 phones is the most logical

Every UK network WILL have 800MHz 4G coverage so it's pretty much a must.
The networks are now trying to get their hands on 700MHz band for 4G as the lower frequencies give better coverage.

and given the software limitations inherent with the lack of lollipop upgrade, the only logical conclusion is that the moto g wins on software.

you miss out all the added improvements, optimisations and bugfixes in the software implemented in more recent versions.

also the Emotion UI version of Android that comes with this phone has no app drawer - which for me would be a bit annoying

I would miss the app drawer too although it's not a deal breaker. I can guarantee you though that the tried and tested version of Android on this phone will not have anywhere near the amount of bugs the newest version has. How many lollipop updates have we seen already and there are lots of people still having issues.

Takes 1 minute to install a launcher that would solve the app drawer problem,

Every new version of Android introduced bugs, limitations and removed features.
