Heat, not much more than getting the phone SIM free

High upfront is good since that means the yearly RPI raise will be much less

No smart phone is worth more than £400. I'm using a galaxy S10e bought for £150, and nothing has drastically changed.

Depends on the person's monthly disposable income, doesn't it? Someone on 150k PA would get a £1500 iphone every year. Minimal impact on their resources.
