Government policy dictates that track and rolling stock should be kept completely separate, and owned by 2 different organisations, so this is just following suit (_;)

This is not like the normal one Hornby do/did which costed around £150. The Railroad range was meant to be a cheap way to get into Hornby but it has ended up still being too expensive. In general Hornby's pricing is insane because the trains are massively overpriced considering the cost of manufacture. They are never going to get kids interested at these prices plus there needs to be more new trains like the E320 rather than reissuing Victorian stuff.

It's mostly railroad stuff on their sale, which is fine for me as a newbie but would be great to have some of the real McCoy on there.

The comment thread in here reminds me of something

I think its more of a try it out on your layout to see. with larger trains, they are more likely to derail on tighter curves, so larger curves would probably be better.

Will I get a sapphire decoder into the peppercorn do you think?

Probably. I have soldered Hornby's 8-pin decoder into there 0-4-0's, which are tiny!

The Devon Flyer set is only £68.99 from Hornby direct (regular price). It is quite significantly different from the West Coast Highlander set which has more track, many track side objects/buildings, and an extra truck.

Hornby were in big trouble a few years back and laid off loads of staff, but made a comeback. They might just do the same again.

they had quite a few at Hamleys a few days before Christmas, for a similar price. might want to look there if you're keen to get one. I was tempted but the colour of the train is just horrible for me, very garish. but that's just my opinion

Nice find. Shame it's only available there.

Branson: "If we continue to run the West Coast Mainline over the next 13 years, I am happy to pledge that 100% of any dividends and royalties Virgin Group and myself take out will continue to fund our investments in clean energy; but as well as that I would use part of this money to invest in British charities."

PMs can make a huge difference - I once got one from someone who registered just to send me a pm to thank me for saving his daughter £50 off a tv she was going to buy. That simple pm is worth more than several thousand degrees of anonymous heat....
