The free recycling of your old fridge is a nice bonus. Strange to see a freezer with manual defrosting these days though (?).
Manual defrost, no good

Never buy a Hotpoint... just don`t

Uh why? Not questioning your judgement as you must have a reason but it may help others if you said why.

I have had this fridge freezer for almost 3 years without a problem (so far) & it works fine, does what it's supposed to.

I agree with others that having to manual defrost is a pain but frost free freezers are more expensive, cost more to run & have less space in the freezer due to the defrost bit required. I defrost once or twice a year so not that bad.

Just my opinion for what it's worth.
Is yours noisy? Ours has been from new. Had 4 engineers out who claim it's normal when it's clearly not when guests come round and ask if we're boiling some eggs

Another problem with modern fridges and freezers. They do publish noise levels for them, best to check before buying especially when there is open plan living involved, and remember if it is 3dB louder than another model, it means in effect it is TWICE as loud!

They quote 43dBA for this one, some are as quiet as 39, so not the quietest you will find, but not the loudest either. hotpoint.co.uk/lar…45/

If your question was to me the answer is no. It is actually quiter than the one it replaced & hard to tell when it is running. Sounds like you have a bad one & are being fobbed off which would explain your comment on hotpoint, I too would not be happy with that.
