How to Build your own minibeast hotel in your garden at RSPB

This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

Create a hotel full of different natural materials, to provide hidey-holes for creatures galore!

The size and construction of your bug hotel is only limited by the materials you have available and your imagination!

Minibeasts are very relaxed tenants and will find the places that appeal to them as long as there are lots of nice nooks and crannies to explore, and some nice rotting bark to munch on.

If you build a solid foundation you can always add to your hotel in stages later on or whenever you have the right materials to hand.

Have fun and get building!

Great idea to help the enviroment and keep the kids busy.... Unfortunately my 2 freak out at the sight of anything that creeps or crawls... Heat from me though

All the more reason to build one. 🤪

EXACTLY what I was about to say.
Get building and when the residents move in, start photographing, or recording and investigating what they do, how long they live, even what they look like in detail.

Cure any fears quickly with distraction and fun.

Inherited?
Alternatively, just lift a paving slab in the garden, will find a fair few under there too.

Looking at the Ops picture I've already got a few of these at the top of my garden
I build it, and the wife learns how to use a flamethrower....

My next door neighbour has a creepy crawly city at the end of his garden, built in the style of the lost Mayan empire.
Does this really help though?

I would suggest that you could have a much bigger impact by not treating the lawn, and not gathering fallen leaves.

I guess people prefer to do this as it gives the appearance of being proactive, whereas letting your garden go wild gives the impression you are lazy.

Totally agree but it much more fun to buid a bug hotel and watch the inhabitants move in!

I have a wild area of the garden the rest is looked after or Im sure the neighbours would complain lol

Thank you
Love it, Tawny0wl. I've already got several mini-Beast hotels that I've made over the years, but this has given me inspiration to build another. ;-)
Wow so creative!
Sadly on furlough in hospitality - the only hotel I can have...
Might build one in the annoying neighbours garden
Nice. A slaughter house for spiders and naughty kids
Found a wasp nest in my shed yesterday, I've had another of minibeasts!
My neighbour across the road has one of them in his front garden. Either that or it's just a pile of random junk.

Kids say good luck with that..........thats why God made Google and Richard Attenborough.

Nice idea but I´m afraid that it will be an Only Spiders Hotel.
I'm still unable to find where those millions of slugs and snails are hiding which ruthlessly eat my plants.. its WAR against them

That looks like a smart one bed conversion in London.

Don't tell me, £1500 p/m & 3 months deposit right?
R.S.P.B. Should never have sent out hunter's to shoot the "Blue Ruddy Ducks" - they were alive, but inconvenient to some......
