As in it will keep automatically updating the Chrome O/S until July 2021? Any Chrome O/S released after might not be compatible.

Same thing for phones, have a limited lifespan on supported O/S's.

Still a great deal. Heat added.

It means you won't get updates for Chrome in 21 months time, including security updates. Good price but not worth it, especially as the newer crop of <£250 Chromebooks will have the full 6 years of updates.

It's not bad it will still work after that my Note3 phone still runs better than my S9 lol

Not everyone has £250 though but I do see your point. X

Picked up one of these for £64 about a month ago. Great for £64 but wouldn't want to pay more than £100 considering the expiry date. Great speakers and battery life are the highlights.

The main difference is that your Note 3 should still be getting Chrome and other app updates through the Play Store so surfing the internet through Chrome (and other web browsers) is still safe as any security issues in the browsers are updated and fixed, this on the other hand after it's end of life will get no updates whatsoever so it would not be recommended to use it for anything beyond basic web browsing, certainly no online banking, shopping, tax returns, ect.

In a Cash Converters, (off all places!) It had been originally bought in January 2019, Powerwashed 15 times, charged 20 times and still had the HP warranty until April 2020.

Yes, I thought it was too good to be true and thought there was something bound to be wrong with it. Used it for a few weeks and couldn't find a single issue. Then sold it on for a small profit.

But you have access to the play store on a Chromebook no different to a phone. Therefore you can download the Android versions of the software just the same.

True but the main Chrome browser which you would normally want to use still wouldn't be updated, but Chrome OS is a very secure OS so it probably would be fine to still web browse for a few years after it's end of support ends if you didn't want to use the Android version of Chrome.

I'm pretty certain the main Chrome browser is only able to be updated with the whole Chrome OS update and not manually but like I said in my comment other comment just now Chrome OS is a very secure OS so it probably would be fine to still use as a web browser for a few years after it's end of support ends.

I love it when I find a bargain good find x
Touchscreen version is available for £147.99 from laptopoutletdirect on eBay with the current 20% code.
eBay item number 183798487685

Got one a few weeks ago with 10% code and the Mrs is more than happy with it (paid £164 then).
It's a worthy replacement for her very slow Asus XA102 'running' (struggling with) Win 10: for what she uses it for.
Nice screen that you can increase the resolution of through settings, if you like, as it's not set to max resolution during initial setup. Speaker is loud, nice touchpad, bargain.
The usual 1% TCB/Quidco brings the price down a little bit.
Oh, and it supports android apps. Touchscreen comes in very handy for these 😁

Whereabouts can I find the expiry dates of the software/how can I find out before purchasing?. I'm helping a friend buy one and have zero experience with Chromebooks. More of a PC/Windows kinda guy.
Thank you!

My friends looking for a new Chromebook right now as theirs has reached it's end of life for updates. Are these new ones with 6 years out now or coming out soon?. Not sure if it's best to buy now or hold off for a bit?

Awesome! Thank you so much. I was looking at one in Currys for £250 and it turn iut it also expires in 2021. What a joke! I agree that it should be very clearly labelled

Also. Loads of them on the Currys website seem to be expiring in 2023, whats going on?. Are there loads being released soon or something?. I'm struggling to find a reasonably priced one with a close to a 6 year life span as possible.

Yes same. I found it from his reply. Thanks

Ps. As a rely to your other comments. Having an up to date OS is very important so an expired Chromebook is risk. Just asking for your card details or similar to get stolen one day. Someone will find a way to explit the old OS eventually.

No probs, yes I think there could be a bit of backlash for Chromebooks coming as most people expect at least 4 years I would say. I would think some new models will be out before Christmas, there might be some good deals on black Friday, Amazon warehouse deals can be okay too. One other thing is that hyperthreading has been turned off in intel Chromebooks for safety reasons, windows and Mac os are also effected but most people don't know. You may want to look at AMD or arm CPU's instead. The Lenovo c330 is ARM and should get updates until 2025, but this is not yet 100% confirmed by Google. Save a Chromebook keyword search on hotukdeals and I'm sure a decent deal will turn up.

Yeah I agree, it’s ridiculous to buy a new Chromebook with only 2 years of updates for £180-£200. But I was going through that list last night and there’s literally next to none available with a 2024 or above date for £300 or less.

When you get to £400 or over it seems to make more sense to just buy a windows laptop which it probably more powerful for the money. Do people seriously buy the £999 Google Pixel Chromebook?

The other option is to keep the old Chromebook and install Linux like in your other post. Although if that doesn’t have accent to the Google Play/App Store then my friend wouldn’t want that.
Such a nightmare . But thank you very much for your help. Saved me from almost purchasing the £250 with only 2 years on it

I have actually found out that you Can update a chrome book once auto updates have stoped.
You can update via Cloudready in Developer mode and it's maintained by Neverware you might not get all the new features that the Google updates bring but will update it for the security.
I knew there had to be away to do it.
