Cold, the i3 at pc world for £130 more is better

A Bentley is better than my focus......What's your point
Nearly posted this myself earlier but couldn’t be bothered with comments such as “not full HD” and no SSD even though it’s only £199
I love peoples comments for a £199 laptop. Perfect for kids school work, browsing the internet, watching movies and playing games (excluding high end ones). Yes its not full HD, but a kid wouldn't care. This isn't designed to be a all powerful elite machines.

If you take this £199 laptop and spec it so everyone is happy, ie add full HD, upgrade to an i5, triple the ram, replace with a SSD hard drive (500Gb as people would moan at 250Gb) you are suddenly looking at £700+ or around £500 if you could accept a measly 250Gb. No longer a budget laptop.

I went to Audi to buy a budget model A1 for £14K, but wasn't happy with a few things. I asked them to make it a little fast, lower the car, remove the rear seats, move the engine to the rear, add 4 wheel drive and suddenly they were giving me a bill for a £100K+ R8.

Anyone that wants to complain about this budget (no ultra budget) laptop not being good enough should post where they live, the car they drive, the TV they have, the clothes they wear, so we all can say that if they spent a little more they could get something better. Almost everything in life you could say if I spend another few pounds I could have/upgrade/improve

Rant over, I'm off to have my Weetabix and go save the world.
So many negative comments but for real, can you find a better laptop for the same price?

"Its not i3, its not full hd, it doesn't have a ssd" Obviously not you doughnuts IT'S £199!!

Thanks OP, heat!

A Bentley doesn't cost only £130 more than your focus
Bought one- cant go wrong for the price. Will do what i need it for which is mainly using iTunes and web browsing.
Hasn’t got a dvd drive which i didn’t realise until i got it home- doesn’t bother me but might other people

For a new laptop at £199, yes it's reasonably good.

Of course if you pay £100+ more or wait 2 years yada yada that gets you a better CPU in a better laptop...

This is more like a Focus versus roller skates, it's colder than a penguin with frostbite mate, accept it. For this sort of price, or £20 more you can get a laptop with a Pentium CPU and an admittedly small SSD that will switch on, allow you to do what you needed to do and switch off again, before this underpowered crock will have booted up. Very basic AMD CPU + standard HDD=pain.

Please can you tell me what made/model you would recommend for £20 more (as am a complete laptop novice)

If you don't mind an 'almost new' laptop, Argos on Ebay sometimes have some good deals. £220 might get a model with more memory say 8GB or a faster processor, though the above should be fine for basic web use, word processing.
For the money, is very good. People need to get this in mind.
What's the purpose of the laptop?

It's like buying a bicycle to cycle to work and people saying "should of bought a helicopter!"

Keep in mind what it is you want to do with the product.
Heat (and common sense) from me!

Can buy an external USB CD/DVD drive on EBAY for £15 including P and P. Even cheaper for USB 2 - so many to choose from. One note. With these external slim line drives you should be gentle with them. I broke one by being impatient and rough, my fault. Just press eject once and there is a short delay. That is quite normal.
Fantastic price for basic laptop.
I'm going to stick with my Sinclair ZX81 going by the negative reviews on here.... ::)
Will wait for it to come down in price on black Friday
£200 and not fhd really is stupid in this day.

As someone posted above, post an alternative within a similar price bracket, eg up to 15% more that is suitable for the use the OP has stated. That would be helpful for the OP.

No one is claiming this has ssd, or a certain processor, or full hd. Some people are on a budget so sacrifice some of those features.
We've got bring your own laptop policy at work. Where i cart my 5 year old "ultra" book to the office everyday and log into a VMware Windows 7 desktop. Works fine. Can use my PC to do whatever i like while still keeping work stuff accessible and secure. Can even make phone calls with my office number.

But i don't want to cart my laptop to work everyday. One of these will do nicely. I can leave it in the locker at work.
